improved clock/timer interface [duplicate]

When I set a time for, for example an alarm, it's often difficult to see the set time. This is because the set time is in the centre of the clock face. For example, my right index finger will block my view if I try to set the minutes to a value between 50 and 0 (60). Naturally, the same happens if I try to set the hours (the hours are a bit more to the left, so it's more between 9/21 and 12/0 for the hours).

I believe that the user interface would be more user friendly if the set time would be shown above the clock face instead of in the centre of it.

@Gulltoppr

Once you have 'grabbed' the hours or minutes, slide your thumb over to the right or left of the screen while keeping contact with the screen and then continue setting/dragging the desired unit(mins/hours).

You don't have to keep your thumb inside the area you are dragging is what I'm trying to say, by doing this you can maintain clear sight on what time you're setting. The same applies to setting a timer.

I personally am quite happy with the way this works, once you realise what I've explained above.

@Edz Thanks, but I already knew that that's possible. Also when I do that, I still end up blocking my view as described. I can 'solve' it by looking underneath my fingers, but it still feels clumsy that way.

@rgrnetalk Thanks for finding that. I had searched the forum before posting, but I agree that it sounds like the design was indeed better in the past and it's good to see old posts that agree with my post.

EDITED: my bad, didn't fully digest your point, I understand now. As you said, it doesn't matter where you slide your thumb to, your hand/thumb still ends up covering some parts (as per your original question) of the dial when you are setting your desired alarm/timer time.

I'm currently editing the file responsible for the layout, which if you are interested in playing with, is located at;

Oops, I was typing a long reply without refreshing this topic.

I think the solution is actually quite easy. Just put the set time above the 'wheel' interface. Centred would probably look the best and is the most neutral for both left-handed and right-handed users.

I'm not a developer and I'm only using Sailfish for a few months now, so I don't trust myself enough yet to fiddle around with files, but I'm grateful that you're having a look at it.
