Battery draining due to encryption?

Dear all,

after the failed update to 3.3.0.14, I had to reset my XA2 to factory defaults. I had done a lot of things with patches and so on, so it was no surprise to me at all. No big deal, I had backed up everything :-)

This allowed me to activate the encryption from scratch without problems. Now I am running the phone with a pretty light configuration and with less apps installed when comparing it to the pre-update status. The only heavy app I am using now is Whatsapp.

The only Apps I installed apart from WhatsApp are: - Opera Mini (Android) - File Browser - GagBook - UI Themer - Crest, which does not show strange behaviour in the system. - Storeman

However, I have noticed a pretty high battery drain. Up to 60%-70% during the day with a normal usage, and up to 15%-20% overnight with the phone "asleep" during the night with two alarms configured to wake up. No matter if only with mobile data on or with WLAN data on. Since at the moment I have to be reachable 24/24 I have not had the possibility to put it in flight mode overnight yet.

Has anybody noticed such battery drain after enabling the encryption?

Best regards.

Issue might be with changes in 3.3 in general.

I haven't noticed any such drain, and I've been checking details and using the device a lot. I'm using an XA2 Ultra, so maybe that's it. Back with my Xperia X, it took a few days after a flash - for indexing and other jobs to settle down - for the battery usage to return to normal. Maybe give that a try. Otherwise, a fresh flash might be in order, even though you just did one.

hi, i have also noticed much faster battery drain since either Rokua or adding encrpyption to my xperia X. previously battery life was typically 2 days. it is now under a day.

@MarkLee: Well, at least I am not the only one.... :-)

Might be related, might also be completely different: Since the update to 3.3, I sometimes have huge battery drain, but I don't use encryption as far as I know. Rebooting always solves this problem temporarily. During battery drain, I also can't charge properly. It sometimes asks in what mode I want to use my usb connection, just charging, developer or media transfer, while connected to a charger. I don't suspect my charger, because it never asks when I have less then a day uptime. The phone doesn't really charge, it just drains slower. The phone isn't getting very hot, so I know it isn't on high load. It seems to be the phone that limits the current draw. A battery logger displays about -3500 mA (negative) when charging correctly. Without charging it is a positive number, depending on the use. When in use, but the drain is happening, I don't remember, but it is a positive number, I don't know if it is dependent of use or approximately constant. When charging, it displays around 150 mA (positive, so slowly draining). I suspect the browser, the video player or android. It always happens when I have a lot of tabs opened with youtube opened and a lot of opened android apps.
