I've used SailfishOS as a daily driver and occasionally since 2014 when I bought Jolla1. Now I'm using Xperia 10. And there has always been this very irritating thing with the keyboard: the space bar is far too short and that results text.like.this. Far too often when my intention is to hit space bar I'll hit period instead. This doesn't happen with Android or iOS keyboards. And the same problem has been there since 2014. Would it be possible to to customize the keyboard in the future SailfishOS releases? I'm quite sure that I'm not the only one who suffers from this.

There are several attempts at modifying the keyboard out there.Some of them deal with the bigger space bar specifically. Look for keyboard patches on Openrepos and Patchmanager.

my theory is the slick visual appearance: Between keys there is only a dot as a separator, not frame around the key. While this looks nice, the active area of each key remains somewhat undefined.

Form over function is a big problem with this OS, making it look pretty is far more important than it being usable. I can think of dozens of instances and the keyboard is certainly one of them.

Perhaps Jolla needs to change its attitude regarding pretty vs functional.

This question has been covered in various ways a number of times, The argument seems to sway between shorter spacebar and longer spacebar, like this question;

Making this current question a possible duplicate or at least, related

So, how about a keyboard setting that satisfies both types of user;

longer spacebar or shorter spacebar
