Some SMS messages comes to Jolla many times even user does not send it more than ones. Bug does not occure every time when SMS is received and is pretty rare. This has happened atleast two times with different senders. At first time same message came two times and now some other message came three times. Dublicate messages has exactly same content, sending date and time. Bug has occured with sailfish version 1.0.3.8 Naamankajärvi and 1.0.2.5 Maadajävri. Operator is DNA.

This is still present in 3.2.1

I have experienced the same when using the Maadajavfi OS, but dublicate messages are quite random also in my case.

I am using Sonera as my operator...

I haven't experienced it with previous releases, but since the update to 1.0.3.8 I have this regularly. Every third to fourth SMS comes as duplicate now, some even three times. This with contacts I message with several times per day and haven't had any problems with before the update.

Sometimes the duplicate comes with a long delay, have received a duplicate 14 hours after the original sms was received.

My operator is 3 and sender use typically 3 and Tele2.

I too had some random (5-10 times in one month) duplicate SMS received the same minute. I didn't received duplicates with the same SIM in my N9.

Seen the same occasionally with the latest OS version (v. 1.0.3.8) and Elisa SIM-card. Especially if I delete the first message I have just received received (for example if it was some SMS "spam"), the same message tends to pop up again in few moments.

I can confirm this, most of the times I receive double-messages, never triple though. I'm constantly having to manually cleanup duplicates :P

Ok, can confirm that this bug still exists in Sailfish OS 2.0.5.6 (Haapajoki).

My ISP sends me SMS mobile alerts when a monthly bill is generated. This time, I kept "receiving" around 100+ SMS / day that the bill had been generated. At first I thought the ISP had messed up and kept sending me these message. So I called and yelled at them and threatened to disconnect if they kept spamming me.

After receiving around 500+ SMS in the past 3-4 days, on a hunch, I searched on TJC and found this thread. I noticed the following characteristics in the SMS that I get -

same SMS message content
same date & time stamp
no sender name / number
get the same SMS every 5-10 seconds.
SMS stop when the 'Messages' app is kept open.
SMS resume when 'Messages app is closed.
a new SMS doesn't move the whole thread / discussion to the top in the 'Messages' app.
even if deleted, the new SMS appears in the same position (i.e. if it was in 4th place in the inbox, and deleted, it again reappears at the 4th place only).

If somebody can tell me what drivers to enable in oFono logger, to only log SMS activity, please tell me and I can attach the oFono log for further analysis.

I started to get this bug yesterday, no change in location or operator or sender operator or sender location. I receive TWO text messages correctly with 15 minutes in between each. THEN i close the messaging app, immediately I receive the same TWO messages with correct timestamps with the alarm sound. To me it seems Jolla is in some hangy state and duplicates the SMS. I think I did not hear any kind of alarm sound originally. Could there be some problem playing the alarm that caused this issue? The duplicated SMS appear correctly below the original in the conversation. I have 2.0.2.51 Aurajoki.

Everything has correct timestamp. I reply between the messages. How can this be operator related? No way.

What operator theory? I don't know if it was in this question or not, but one theory is that the Jolla fails to acknowledge the SMS when received, so the operator sends it additional times. This is normal behavior for an operator, to re-send a message not acknowledged by the terminal (phone).

For the time stamps, what do you mean that they are correct? Mine are the exact same as the previous identical message.

It is typical for mobile networks that a SMS message will be sent to the device multiple times until the delivery is confirmed. I don't know if it would be possible to recognize duplicates in Jolla

This problem is common when the SMS travels from user on one MNO to a user on another MNO. The confirmation handoff may not be properly executed and the SMS will be resent until delivery is confirmed. Weak signal reception can also result in multiple SMSs until an acknowledgement is sent.

In the case when message came three times both phones were in same operator network (DNA). So problem is not only between different operators.

Could a weak signal result in receiving empty messages as well? This evening I received 3 empty messages from a contact, but when I got home and checked my backup phone (I have a so-called twin-SIM, the same phone number on two phones) it had received one full message, not three empty ones. My Jolla runs SailfishOS 1.0.3.8. Network operator is Telenor.

This had almost never happened to me on any other phone, but in sailfish, it happens constantly, So I don't think it's the operator's issue!

Where I live we have very bad coverage - no matter which network we are using, and we see this problem a lot no matter which phone we use.

If anything I have seen this problem less on my Jolla, but that is probably more to coincidence than anything else.

So I do not believe it is a Jolla problem.

I have never seen this problem with any other phone I've used, as far back as I can remember, having had the same operator and geological position for the last 10 years. Phone usage varies between LG, Symbian, Android and WP. It only started with my Jolla.

I live in good coverage area. I also have had a few duplicate SMSes, but they all have been sent from iPhone. However, I've had this kind of problems years ago with two of those indestructible Nokia 3310/3330 phones. In my experiences it is not problem of Jolla, but operator/poor coverage. Just my 2c.

Unfortunately I think it is JOLLA PROBLEM. I have the same issue after update my Jolla to 2.0.2.51. It did not happen never before update, even on my older Jolla Phone (this one is my second Jolla Phone). Maybe new update will solve this problem...

I have received the same message hours apart, but timestamps are identical. That means the operator has sent the same message again. That could be because of weak signal, or operator issue, or a bug in Jolla SMS code (or in GSM/3G code, dunno). Personally I really can't blame Jolla over this, because a few friends havd had same kind of issues with their whatever phones and text messages.

Is there any way to get SMS header information?
