[BUG] Green led blinking, phone yammed [released]
After the latest OS update my phone is having performance / connection / lockup problems. The most notable issue is that the green led is blinking rapidly and the phone is not working;
unable to make calls, just says connection problems can turn screen saver off, but phone not responding to touch / cannot access but the lock screen
I noticed that the load-average was ~6 all the time before the phone became unusable.
UPDATE: When the green led is blinking, connecting through USB in developer mode is not possible. Also I think this is related to both WLAN and 2G/3G connection issues. Because for me this happens often when I leave or come back to home e.g. when the home WLAN signal appears or disappears. Btw. My phone just started ringing, but no way to answer it because only lock screen is visible (no answer the phone screen).
UPDATE2: Also battery doesn't charge, or at least there's no notification onscreen.
Same here. Sometimes green blinking, sometimes red blinking led. Phone reacting not or very slowly. Seems to me like it is connected to mobile data in 2G connection if connection is very weak.
ramoth ( 2014-02-01 22:28:20 +0200 )editSame here. The only one solution for me to solve this issue is to reboot my phone by removing the battery.
Wickedsten ( 2014-02-01 23:07:34 +0200 )editYes, had that too. Freezes and only battery remove helps.
ramoth ( 2014-02-02 00:48:21 +0200 )editSame thing here. If i use the phone for calling and sms, it seems to work fine. Any 3g or wlan connectivity seems to cause a problem. Didn't need to take the battery off, just make the phone go screensaver mode and open the locking few times (pressed the power button a little longer than usually) lets me go to the first settings screen and shut down 3g and wlan. The connection problem icon still stays on, until i reboot the device. Yes and also the phone shows it is only connected to 2g, but the connection speeds seem to be 3g. Anyway it's pretty annoying to use.
sciwi ( 2014-02-02 07:30:19 +0200 )edit+1 Yes, had that too. Freezes and only battery remove helps. It's pretty annoying to use.
Victorious ( 2014-02-02 18:39:59 +0200 )editSame here, unstable wifi connection, black screen (maybe phone just not reacting), fast blinking green light :-\
yoktobit ( 2014-02-02 18:53:55 +0200 )editOnly I have green and red blinking (very fast), the screen is black. The power button does not respond. Was on the street, including 3G (wifi was off).
Victorious ( 2014-02-02 19:19:28 +0200 )editSeeing the same thing as @sciwi - reboot fixes it.
Seems to be caused by using the data connection while the reception quality changes - I saw it while driving and went into a low reception area 3G -> 2G.
arnbak ( 2014-02-02 22:54:01 +0200 )editIt could be interesting, if someone from Jolla could shed some light on what the LED blinking pattern means. Its probably and indication on something, but what ?
arnbak ( 2014-02-02 23:01:52 +0200 )editFor me I have no Probs with WiFi. Only mobile Internet if connection quality is low.
ramoth ( 2014-02-02 23:12:13 +0200 )editSame problem. On the top of the screen came notification about the problem with connection. I had both 3G and wlan on. Phone was not connected to the wlan though. Whole system was very sluggish and when I waited screen went black and green led was blinking. I did the reboot and now everything is ok.
Qwerty ( 2014-02-03 11:35:24 +0200 )editI had the same problem this morning. I was connecting phone to the charger, green LED was blinking and charger was recognized as connection with computer.
cropas ( 2014-02-03 11:48:10 +0200 )editI have the same problem with the greed led and freeze. After removing the battery, the phone will no start, now just the red led is blink fast.. I had also a lot of wifi and phone waking up problems (screen stays dark until swiping up the notifications screen).
soloist ( 2014-02-03 12:51:37 +0200 )editSame here unfortunately :(
mousse04 ( 2014-02-03 14:36:02 +0200 )editAnd here too. Red led flashing, green led flashing (I'd say at a Hz or 4-5). Screen did come on sometimes, with notification of "problem with connection". 3G connection seemed to be intermittent, WLAN wasn't connected, although I am at home. However, after a short period things seemed to restore. No reboot, no crash (apps still running), didn't need to remove battery. WLAN connection however is still down, with "Connecting" in the WLAN networks view, trying to connect to my home WLAN. I just tapped WLAN to disable and reenable WLAN, and it reconnected within seconds. However, the connection is unstable, disconnecting and reconnecting every few seconds...
It's not the battery, which still is at 38%.
On the N9, restarting the ICD service helped things sometimes. Is there something equivalent on the Jolla?
== addendum WLAN disabled, several apps which want to access the network are eating the CPU now (jolla-email, msyncd, QtWebProcess, connmand, dbus-daemon, alien_bridge), but strangely they seem to work just fine. 3G is connected. Switching to flight mode has no effect on CPU usage, it remains high. Connecting by USB didn't work. I've made a dump of journalctl before rebooting. Is there some address I can send this to? (Not posting it publicly, due to privacy)
Fuzzillogic ( 2014-02-03 20:50:12 +0200 )editI have this problem too. The phone stucks somehow to a "problem with connection" -loop. By pressing unlock button green or red led just starts to blink rapidly.
The phone enters to the loop when a) sometimes when I leave my apartment (and WLAN connection breaks) b) almost always when I come back to my apartment and the phone tries to connect in my WLAN.
There's something wrong with the connection stuff when the phone changes from 3G to WLAN or from WLAN to 3G.
skvark ( 2014-02-04 12:24:21 +0200 )editYesterday I finished the reinstallation of my Jolla, just because of this issue. Needless to say, it is still there. More and more frequently it appears. Very annoying.
LVPVS ( 2014-02-04 13:45:35 +0200 )edithad the green led blinking issue today, albeit in a different way... after coming home and connecting to wifi i wanted to do a phone call... the phone app wouldn't respond and after i clicked on "close", the screen went black... after that, the green led started blinking for a short amount of time and then the phone came back to live, although all apps were closed...
maybe the green blinking led kills all tasks as a reset when the phone freezes, but can't perform those actions within the loop?
egnat69 ( 2014-02-04 21:38:59 +0200 )editI also have this problem. Everytime phone is 2G and WLAN network. Last time I have to remove battery from phone to boot system. I think this is critical bug which should have main priority to fix.
pazix ( 2014-02-04 21:49:49 +0200 )edit@egnat69 I had both green and red led, but apps were still running when phone became responsive again.
Fuzzillogic ( 2014-02-04 23:17:10 +0200 )edit+1 same bug for me
kaulian ( 2014-02-05 10:43:42 +0200 )edit+1. I noticed it when trying to connect the phone to the computer for loading some music. The usb connection type selection did not appear, the screen remained black and the led did the red blinking once. I tried it shortly after, and it did the green blinking.
I got a failed driver installation message from windows stating something about LinuxCD device. I forgot to write it down.
I connected the phone later to another usb port and it worked without problems.
lupastro ( 2014-02-05 11:09:07 +0200 )editNotice it two time yesterday in the metro in Paris.
Also pushing power button make green led blinking fast around 20 or 30 time, then 1s pause and red led blinking with same pattern.
Removed battery ...
Khertan ( 2014-02-05 13:49:44 +0200 )editsame too, ever happen 1 times
TMavica ( 2014-02-05 19:59:21 +0200 )editI just had the green led problem. all apps were closed. connected to my home wifi. mobile data off
Erlend ( 2014-02-05 21:52:39 +0200 )editSame here. Multiple times during a short period of connection problems. Both green blinking and red blinking.
Mohjive ( 2014-02-05 22:49:52 +0200 )editI have to report that I've seen the red bliking once and the only solution was to remove the battery as it just kept rebooting. Not sure what I was doing but I believe was network related.
The green bliking had it today, I had the phone with low battery around 9% or 8% and I was checking the settings to reduce consumption ( no sounds + low screen brigthness) and then when I put the screen to sleep it flashed me with 6 or 7 times the green light. I tried to wake it up and it promptly did as I asked and stopped blinking. After that worked as normal, no need to remove battery or other workaround.
vascorsd ( 2014-02-06 01:33:46 +0200 )editI have the same issue, quite annoying !
Christian Emlek ( 2014-02-06 01:37:57 +0200 )editI had green led blinking. Could have been caused by a situation where I entered WiFi network coverage. Network connects automatically, but I would have to approve privacy statement on web page to get connected to internet. I could get phone up and running by using power key, but now the connection problem remains. And when I go to browser trying to browse any site it doesn't open this "confirmation page" but claims there is no connection. And it takes minutes to revert to mobile data.
Vesa ( 2014-02-06 09:09:30 +0200 )editSame here yesterday evening, LED was blinking green, I was unable to swipe the screen or enter the pulley menu, next try the LED was blinking red, then green and so on. Everey time the phone woke up, i got a blinking notification on the top of the screen that there is a connection problem. I had luck, that i was able to shutdown the phone via on/off key.
Bragi ( 2014-02-06 09:16:21 +0200 )editThis happened to me this morning. The phone did not turn the screen off when I went to bed last night. I woke up and noticed the screen was on. After pressing the powerbutton once the screen turned off, but when i tried to wake it up by doubletap or powerbutton, the screen turned on and was black. Swiping up from bottom made the screen wake up. Connection was locked to slow 2G, wasn't able to use 3G. Terminal didn't pop up the VKB. Browser was forceclosing right after i started it. Reboot helped
