auto detecting headphones not working

Hi, I have a problem using my headphones with Sony Xperia XA2. I can listen to music via Bluetooth and via speaker. I also can make phone calls using the speaker at the top of the display.
Using the audio output chooserfrom openrepos.net I can set the audio to my headphones and everything is working fine like before.
If I plug my headphones (or a similiar audio device via jack) in, the sound is still coming out of the speaker. If I set via audio output chooser the sound to headphones and plug them out, the audio is not stopped like usually.
So auto detecting the correct audio output seems to be broken. It was working very well with the current sfos (3.3.0.16) around two weeks ago.
How can I try to debug this? Or may it be a hardware failure?
