Feat.Request: hide german "Umlaute: ä,ö,ü" from keyboard top level

Compared to my old HTC Desire I experience a higher fault rate on touching the right key on the virtual key board, even after 3 weeks of full use.

I would be happy to not have the keys ä,ö,ü not available on the top level, thus to spread available space to remaining keys. Those keys are not used that often, and could be accessed easily with long pressing on a,o, and u. Maybe those keys could be hide optionally?

bad idea! i am so happy that i have those keys at the jolla keyboard. ...use the english keyboard if you don't want to see ä, ö, ü

Why is this request downrated? The Umlaute are disturbing for me aswell. It has just been a feature request for people like him to disable Umlaute on the main key layout. Quite a reasonable request, from my point of view...

what do you mean with often? http://www.sttmedia.de/buchstabenhaeufigkeit-deutsch

and even then, you could replace it with ae, oe, and ue.

and why horrible, if it would be just optional? I am just asking myself, if I am faster typing with more keys and more failures, or with less keys and less failures. I accept the answer from jgr since it is a solution.

The German keyboard is correct according to standards.

What you want is a custom layout. Use the English keyboard. If you dislike, that the predictive dictionary is English than, change the name of the keyboard layout file (e.g. to en-de.qml) and create a corresponding config file (en-de.conf) with the correct language code.
