Unable to lock phone after dismissing alarm

The first few seconds after dismissing an alarm (from calendar or the clock app) the phone does not lock when pressing the power/lock button. The phone is inevitably (completely) unlocking, and doing so very slowly.. pushing the button seems to completely unlock it which is counter-intuitive. However.. it turns out that it does nothing, I'm unable to lock the phone for another second or so, i.e. until the fading animation would have finished.
So i end up spending more time trying to lock the phone than actually dismissing the alarm. Also.. this is pretty hard to get right without looking. :(
