Why is the device lock status not shown in the lock screen?

edit split that up into two questions.
This weekend I used device lock for the first time (with automatic locking 30 min. and allow feeds while locked). When the phone locks after the timeout there is no sign in the lock screen that the phone is locked and behaves strange in some ways.
It is called lock screen, so please show me that my phone is locked here ;-)
I see two issues here - maybe you could divide this into two separate question: about icon, and about dial pad. (I'd like to vote just one of your ideas, not both)
