This question was originally part of this post but @simo suggested to split it up, so here we go.
If your device is locked via device lock from the settings menu you must swipe in the launcher area to get the unlock dial pad.
Wouldn't it be better to have the unlock dial pad in the lock screen itself? Why is it called lock screen after all?

Its more about concepts of 'screen lock' vs 'devicelock'. So its like screenlock-screen locks the screen from accidental touch events and devicelock-screen handles the devicelock code input.
And as screenlock is not accepting any touch events there is no way to put devicelock pin query in there in current design.
Another problem with the current design is that after inputing the code for device lock, you end up in home screen, making the lock-screen pulley menu harder to reach thus reducing its usability. Now that this handy pulley menu is going to be customizable, it is even more important to be within easier reach... Even if with the current design it is difficult/impossible to implement the original suggestion of this question, still there could be an improvement somehow I believe.. perhaps making the pulley menu available also in home screen?

In my opinion the current way is the right way for Jolla/Sailfish. Lock screen doesn't mean "lock your phone from here": all in all you can swipe up-to-down from outside and lock your phone even when you're in the launcher or apps areas. Lock screen just gives you minimal information: ambience (and the way to change it), time, alarms set, missed calls and smses, not even battery percentage nor signal. There's even a pulley menu! Anyway, you shouldn't do anything without swiping. Not even call (with a dialpad similar to the unlock pad), nor trying to unlock by accident.
In my answer I just wanted to point out that the lock screen has no other activities than activating the pulley menu, change the ambience and swipe to switch to the launcher area when the phone is unlocked. No tap wherever. When the phone is locked no action should be possible but unlocking it (and Sailfish allows to silence/turn on sounds through pulley menu). to have the unlock pad. Even the ambiences could give hints on users. Maybe a different mechanism could be programmed: you unlock the phone and are presented an unlock screen. The unlock the phone and go to the lock screen and wherever else. But this means that you can't check for battery life and time unless you unlock the phone. I think Jolla guys picked the best trade off.

If I have enabled "Allow feeds while locked" there could be the normal e-mail icons at the top as now as well. Plus that you then should be able to access events view. When you enter the correct pin you are presented with the unlock screen, just as you write. Then you can access the ambiances, home screen etc.

The unlock dial pad should definitely be on the lock screen. To unlock your phone now, you have to first double-tap to wake the display, swipe up, and then dial at least five digits and 'unlock' (9 actions in total!!!). This is way way too much.
Additionally, when the display is off, I would like to have a single attempt 'tap-code' based on rhythm or swipe pattern, to directly unlock the phone. This would obviously fall back to security code on failure while retaining reasonable security.
