When I send contacts from my N9 to the Jolla as 'Contact cards', they are not received / handled.

I can look up a contact on the N9, say, the Finnish Institute in London, ask N9 to 'Send contact card', select the fields I want to send, send them to the Jolla, but then nothing... (N9 sends contact cards as two SMSes and not an MMS, apparently).

This bug relates specifically to the old SMS Contact Card vcard protocol not being implemented, as distinct from later MMS-based vCard .vcf attachment-style protocols.

The Jolla is not able to send or receive MMS yet. To send a contact (.vcf) as an attachment of a short message, the message changes into MMS format. at the n9 for sure

find more info about mms here: https://together.jolla.com/question/955/mms-multimedia-message/

So not true! contactcard sent as SMS are sent as SMS and not as MMS! If they are this is a bug in the other phone.

@chemist apparently the true SMS contact card of Nokia's design wasn't widely implemented by other manufacturers and so the de facto standard for sharing contact is vcard sent via MMS https://together.jolla.com/question/7695/share-contact-carddetails-via-sms/

i do not know much about standards. i just know that my n9 changes into mms-format if i add a contact card as attachment

@Zandi how do you know that? My provider's billing system (Virgin Mobile UK) lists two 'text to another network' for a contact card sent from the N9 and one 'Picture Message' for an image sent from the N9.

This is a known issue. We are actively working on MMS support and once it's released Jolla should be able to receive contact cards via MMS. We will try to sneak in support for SMS-based vCards as well but it's optional so no promises there, MMS is clearly first in the queue.

+1 for first pri to MMS, -1 for saying SMS-based vCards are "optional". This is a smartphone, and should act as one ;)

-1 for the MMS part, I never sent vcards as MMS I always sent as SMS... MMS are like 39c each on all providers in Germany. I have no clue where the impression comes from that vcards should be sent via MMS?! And never means never, not on any brand I ever had! (so no, not only nokia)

@slava, please be very very sneaky ;-) (sneakier than a sneak insect sneaking on a sneaky bun, to mangle Blackadder...) @martinrusler, @chemist, frustrated I'm sure, but I'm going to hazard a guess that the Sailors would prefer shoulder rubs and encouragement than -1's for implementing features... (and MMS is expensive here too, only time I ever sent one was testing this bug!)

now I know... just looked at android... android is sending a .vcf attached to a message which results in a MMS being sent... 39c... My N9 sent a vCard formatted SMS with only selected items from the contact so you do not send 5 sms... 0c - now I see your problem, you want to send the whole contact with image and everything... I don't or I would use BT if applicable or send an email!

If the contact data fit into a 1-3 SM, it should be sent as SM. My employers web phone book had the option to forward contact data as SM. SMS is still the lowest common denominator while MMS still does not work between some operators, especially international.
