Hello all,

I haven't been able to add neither a Twitter nor a Google account to my Jolla. The phone is updated to the latest Sailfish OS revision (1.0.1.12).

When trying to add a Twitter account, I get to the terms of service, accept them by swiping left, the phone displays the rolling circle, and then I get thrown back to the accounts page. I assume this would be the point where I would have to complete the oauth process.

Similarly, for the Google account, after accepting the terms of service, I get a blank page with no way to progress except skipping (and going back to the accounts page).

Internet connection is working fine, but I have no SIM card yet. I've come across a similar problem report on another forum, and apparently that used seems to have had no problems after installing a SIM card.

Is a SIM card necessary to handle these accounts? (Is this possibly related to how Presence is handled?)

UPDATE: apparently the SIM card is not necessary. I was able to add both a Twitter and a Google account by accessing the account management page not from the system settings but from the Gallery (it provides an option to add/edit your accounts for sharing photos). Still inexplicable why it wouldn't work from the System Settings route though.

Confirmed, I have also not been able to add Twitter account without a SIM. (Adding a Google account did work though.)

The process fails at the step where normally the Twitter app authorization login page would come up (after the Tems of Service page). This page never appears, the whole 'wizard' closes and the user is dumped back at the 'Accounts' setup page.

Got the same problem. My jolla just came yesterday, but I don't have the SIM yet. Registering the jolla, google or twitter account is not possible. My jolla is still on 1.0.0.5 as the jolla account is needed to update the system...

Made a micro sim out of my sim. Now I have working SIM with 3g, but I can neither connect to my jolla account nor create a new account (always the oops-messages). Maybe the error is not on the jolla, but on the service...

As mentioned already in the answer, the key point is to have the correct time on the phone (e.g. via GSM network with a SIM card and setting time option 'update automatically').

I stumbled over the same problem when I tried to add my twitter account again after I had deleted it. As it worked flawlessly when I first added the account I supposed it had something to do with something I had recently changed. The only thing that I did change was first allowing my jolla to update date and time automatically and then turning automatic update off again. So I looked at the date and time settings and found that my time zone had been set to Finland (which is wrong in my case).

After setting the correct time zone I was able to successfully add the Twitter account.

Maybe this also explains why this problem vanishes for some people when they insert a SIM card. If automatic update of date and time is activated a potentially wrong time zone setting is automatically corrected when the phone is connected to the mobile network. And that in turn is only possible with an inserted SIM card.

By the way: Not only Jolla's Twitter client failed to add the account but also Tweetian. After changing the time zone to the correct value I was also able to succesfully sign in to Twitter in Tweetian.

I don't think that SIM card is required. I was able to add both Twitter and Google accounts without the SIM card installed.

Hm, interesting, so I should be looking somewhere else for the problem. Is there a way to debug account creation, that you know of?

I experienced the same with Twitter and XMPP accounts. https://lists.sailfishos.org/pipermail/devel/2013-December/002121.html

Same issue with twitter. Creating/Adding an XMPP account worked but for twitter the web page is not opened. SIM card is installed and logged into my mobile network.

I rebooted my phone several times and tried it for three days without success.

I've had the same problem and I solved it activating the automatic update in System>Time and date settings. After a reboot I could set up a twitter account.
