One of the reasons for having the pulley menus the way they are is the idea that they can be used without looking at the screen. The idea is that after a while, you remember what number the option you want to use is at, so you can pull the menu to your desired choice by feel only, even with the phone in your pocket. Is this something you ever do?

No, I always feel the need to look at the pulley menu when selecting from it.

Too much jitter with audio and I guess vibra feed back.

Generally I find I pull too far or too quickly when not looking so would miss the entry I want

I still feel the haptic feedback is a good supplement to the visual, even if it isn't enough to operate the device without looking.

Unfortunately same here. I have the feeling the pulley menu should by default let you pull a bit longer to reach the first option. Currently, I always overshoot or have to be careful and look a the screen.

I almost always look. One reason for that is that you can "overpull" i.e. deselect a menu item by pulling past it. IMO, Jolla should prevent this from happening by simply making it so you can never deselect the last pulley menu item by pulling past it.

Happened once or twice and I was happy to have that option then. But usually I look at the screen.

Yes, but only for menus with only one option (like when answering a call)

I am only able to use pulley without looking when dismissing the alarm or answering a call. Rejecting call(3 options in pulley) is not possible without looking. This poll is in good synergy with the suggestion here: https://together.jolla.com/question/10509/enhancementbetter-interaction-and-haptic-feedback-for-pulley-menu-when-acceptingrejecting-a-callalarm/

Maybe jolla could use different sounds for pulley items, like a rising/lowering click tone. And a sound when nothing is selected. Those plus reducing jitter from the feedback would make them more usable without looking at the display.

Yes, i would love to have rising haptic feadback as well. especially if you want to go to the top most item this would help imho

I like the pully-menus and also the haptic feedback that comes with it. It's just that I do not like the feedback when writing with the keyboard. The settings don't allow for using the feedback for the pully and keyboard separately. Therefore, I don't use vibrations and also can't use the menus without looking on the phone.

This exactly the same reason why I don't use tactyle feedback at all: I would love it for the pully menus, but I hate it everywhere else, especially on the keyboard.

ibins ( 2014-02-07 19:54:10 +0300 )edit

that is s bug or missing feature an not an item here, without haptic feedback you cannot use a pulley as easy as it ws meant

chemist ( 2014-02-08 12:21:28 +0300 )edit

True. And I realized it's already a separate thread here: https://together.jolla.com/question/5531/differentiation-between-haptic-feedback-in-general-and-in-pulley-menu/

I got the phone for few days only, I am not that familiar with most app pulley menus, therefore I have to look. Ideally I would like to have different vibration for some menu options, e.g. a delete operation. I would imagine there is some hierarchy in menu options for app developers, e.g. 'help', 'about' options are at the further end of the menu, etc.

Sometimes, I tend to drag from the middle of the screen, so the dragging area is not long enough to list all menu options before reaching the bottom of the screen. But I guess this is my bad practice.

Didn't really manage to get that used with the device yet, even thou the feature is awesome. I like the feature a lot, but I do it without looking only when answering calls. I must say that the answering call pulley system is genius!
