I want to buy a wired headset for my jolla phone, since the headset from my previous phone. It seems hard to find out which headsets work or not, so I propose to make a wiki to report the status for all headsets / headphones.

[edit] The following page already does the job:

there are a lot of questions regarding different headphones, also with some useful answers... combining them in a wiki seems a good idea... however i would not limit it to wired headsets...

also please clarify: do you mean work as like sound passes through or do you mean that the controls also should work?

I did limit to wired headsets because I think the issue here is the jack connection. If there are issues with bluetooth models, I believe it is a software issue, so you can still hope the issue will be corrected.

I think there are different levels of "working": - audible sound (speakers working) - able to call / receive calls (sepakers and microphone working, obviously not for headphones with no microphone…) - buttons working ( I don’t really have experience on this one, I guess you can describe for each reference what is working and what is not…)

There are different ways of wiring the 3,5 jack for headphones/headsets. N9 and N900 used the old OMTP and Jolla use the newer AHJ (American Headset Jack) that has been pushed by CTIA. You can always use an converter to switch between OMTP/CTIA(AHJ) and many headsets comes with an converter.

Jolla use the newer AHJ (American Headset Jack) => (from wikipedia) This configuration can be found on devices such as Apple iCrap => does this mean that ANY iCrap headset will work w/ Jolla?

There is no definitive answer, as you have not asked definitive question as @egnat69 had pointed - what you mean by "work"? There different standards and plugs. Read these web resources to get an insight: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=1400922 http://reviewjolla.blogspot.de/2013/12/user-report-tool-jolla-and-external.html https://together.jolla.com/question/2771/please-add-support-for-wired-headset-buttons/

The problem is that all this information is a mess… For example, I am considering buying this headset. Will it work ? Won’t it work ? The seller website does not provide much info, so if I get experience from someone who has the same model I will be more confident… And therefore I think we need a database of headset models that are reported to work.

As for what I mean by "work", I guess it can be split into separate status :

  • speakers work (audible sound),
  • microphone works (when you call someone with the headset they can hear you),
  • buttons work (from what I read this one is a no for every headset for the moment)

Yes, it is a mess as no manufacturer is producing "headset for Jolla". I think currently buttons do not work on wired headsets. These may come in the next update. So far resources like: http://reviewjolla.blogspot.de/2013/12/user-report-tool-jolla-and-external.html provide the best way to check if certain headset/external device works with Jolla. Of course next to "test it yourself" :)

This ressource is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for the link. Unfortunately, I cannot convert your comment into an answer. I think this link needs more advertising.
