It should be possible to share a short version of URL of the browsed page in SMS (as well as to social media options).

Update: by @anandrkris It could be made bit generic by having an app for shortening the clipboard text (if it's identified a URL).

How about simply using Tinyurl? It has a simple API available, and as far as I know it's free to use. :) TBH I'm not a programmer of any sorts, so this is just what I think: If the tinyurl API could be linked to the pulley menu and to that implement a copy function, this way the short url could be pasted where ever you desire. EDIT: here http://www.tiny-url.info/open_api.html

A built-in use of a URL-shortening service (e.g. bit.ly, tinyurl.com, goo.gl etc.: see http://www.tiny-url.info/open_api.html#provider_list for a comprehensive list) is not a good idea IMO, as the use of such services is detrimental to ones and others privacy and SailfishOS' aim to be explicitly privacy protecting.

But you can easily use a URL-shortening service in the Browser and utilise the shortened URL directly thereafter:

All these plugins are available at OpenRepos.net (and are easily installable via Warehouse or Storeman).

See https://together.jolla.com/question/176111/browser-share-menu-improvement/?answer=176123#post-id-176123 what it looks like, if you have these plugins installed.
