The native media player supposedly has support for .pls files. It starts playing a stream completely fine, but stops ~20 seconds after the screen goes off the stream stops. If I wake the device up again immediately after that the media player still shows that it is playing (the cover has a pause button for the left to right swipe) but, will switch to stopped mode shortly after.

This obviously shouldn't happen and also does not happen when playing something else from the media player. I don't have any problems with the same stream with any other device (an old iPod, a laptop).

To reproduce, here is a .pls file from BLN.fm - the stream starts playing fine and then just stops

[playlist]
NumberOfEntries=1
Title1=BLN.fm Stream (low)
File1=http://176.28.20.203:9000/stream-low

I tried the address you suggested and streamed via the browser and media player. It's been playing for over 20 minutes now, with one sound drop out (a notification that my battery is getting low) other than that, no problems at all.

So what am I doing wrong? Is there some setting somewhere that makes the stream shutdown or what? Did your screen stay on the whole time?

I've sometimes had a similar issue with playing internet radio streams via the media player, but only when I'm outside and moving. When the phone is stationary on my desk at home, the streams play just fine. (The phone is not connected to WiFi when at home, by the way...) So could it be something to do with (pre)buffering and maintaining a steady connection to the stream?

Maybe, but this is from my home wifi connection so that doesn't really make sense. The connection is not 100Mbits bit it shouldn't need to be either. Like said, the stream works on the same connection on other devices.

@2Ti - Sorry for late reply. My screen timed out at 30 secs (as set by me) and BLN.fm is still playing.

After 3 minutes of playing it has now cut out twice but has come back on within seconds. 7 minutes now elapsed and still playing. 10 minutes, still playing without interruption. I can't even connect with the URL you have given, so I went directly to BLN.fm's website and played direct from the webpage. The URL you gave worked once I replaced "-low" with '.pls' - again, still playing without fault.

Thanks everyone for testing this. It would appear that it is something to do with my home wireless network, as the stream works more or less fine on another network. Going on 15 (60) minutes without a problem.

There are some issues with the stream occasionally interrupting but I don't think that has anything to do with the media player.

Closing the question.
