As a Jolla user, I would like landscape functionality when I type messages and browse the internet. Once in lanscape mode, the gestures logic should be retained.

Excellent to see so many votes and comments <3 Let's not turn this into a debate whether or not a landscape support for native apps is somehow "optional" feature. It's a highly mandatory one. We simply didn't have time to implement it properly because [add your favorite features-missing-explanation :P] and it's on the top of our list to get released as soon as we can.
We really think that a modern operating system UI should be orientation independent, but as it's a big goal we need to split it down to smaller ones and gradually work our way up the list. We're sorry if it wasn't properly explained earlier.

Well, the votes keep accumulating and debate keeps drifting in side-tracks the longer it takes for Jolla to respond whether the requested fearure is on the roadmap or not. Also, workarounds will be posted and comnents against them as some get worried that if there is a not optimal workaroind it might cause the question to be closed. Because of these it is crucially important that you keep giving us answers like you just did cause that builds the confidnce that these issues do get fixed when you have allocated resources to make it happen. As it is, I had made a Jolla Care reqest of Landscape mode in early Dec (before Together-forum even existed) using exactly that expression 'that modern mobile UX needs to have Landscape/Portrait-modes' and as you can see from the votes that many think the same. So now, I guess we are all happy to know that the native Landscape mode to Jolla is coming, and we don't have look for non-optimal workarounds. Thanks for your efforts, and the most important thing to realize is that we 'Jolla community' have a mutual goal to make SailfishOS better or best mobile OS in the world. And we know it takes time, to becone truly #unlike ;)

Bale ( 2013-12-28 22:05:26 +0300 )editWhile Jolla is bigger than the N9 and thus portrait-mode typing is easier, I still by far prefer landscape typing. When in the future smaller Sailfish-devices appear (I find Jolla way too big!) portrait-typing becomes even more troublesome.

I believe landscape mode is coming, but I really hope there will be possibility to lock screen orientation or there will be more complaining again.. So do it right at once. :)

Landscape should be fixed in native OS for apps like browser etc..
