When I answer the phone or do something with pulley-menu I usually have to look at the phone even if I'm selecting the last item (uppermost) in the menu as it might jump over the last selection.

How about when pulley-menu reaches the last item it would stop to it when you keep moving your thumb down so you would know without looking that you selected the last item?

Edit: In case you would like to see the full menu ( where you can tap the selection ) you would swipe over the edge of the screen.

Edit 2: This could be optional for pulley menu in settings

Edit 3: Added picture to show how menu would work:

Pulley menu stops at the last item

in fact, when I started exploring the new OS, I kinda expected the pulley menu to not have a point where it's pulled out but nothing is selected, and I expected it to always flip back up when releasing. Not sure if that is the best way, but it's made for a few of those startled moments in a new UI

I've had the same problem and find it unnatural that the last item of the pulley menu is passed over even though there is nothing to select after it (especially if the pulley has only one item). Pulling to the end to leave the menu open is not so useful or intuitive and could be removed.

I believe that would create some unwanted actions. Thats why I give -1

Please, add at least some kind of example before giving -1 if you see issue(s) with this idea.

There’s another use of the current behaviour, namely error handling. It has saved me lots of times when I accidentally have flicked the pulley menu out without triggering an option! I personally like this behaviour, where a light intentional pull is required to actually select anything. An overly fast pull or overly long pull on the other hand, will leave it hanging. It's neat, in my opinion.

I do not think it is possible without a major change of how the Pulley menu works. When you jump over the last selection, as you say it, all the options of the Pulley menu are displayed and you can pick one by taping on it. With your suggestion, this feature would not be possible.

How about using this method: "after users finger reaches edge of the screen, the pulley menu comes out completely, like after pulling it "over"" From: https://together.jolla.com/question/3391/we-should-be-able-to-continue-scrolling-pulley-menu-somehow-if-our-finger-reaches-max-distance/

Razor ( 2013-12-27 11:52:10 +0300 )edit

@Razor, that is not the same issue. In that other post it's about the fact that some pulley menus are so long that you need to pull twice unless you started the pull from the very top.

@bennypr0fane, I didn't mean that it is same issue. I meant that it would be possible to show full menu ( where you can tap the selection ) by swiping over the edge of the screen. When you don't swipe over the edge pulley would stop to last item.

@Neo thanks for the answer, I never realized the pulley menu had this feature :) However I think it would be much more intuitive if that option wasn't there, and pulling the menu to the very end would continue selecting the last item.

I like the solution of having the pulley staying out if you swipe all the way beyond the edge of the screen.

I also would like the pulley menu to stop on the last (first ?) item in the list and not going "over". As mentioned, the pulley feature would become more useful, because you could find one item blindly. How many of us actually uses the "pull the menu open and tap" feature regularly ?

Of course there should still be the option to leave the whole menu open.

How about this: the pulley menu would stop on the last item, keeping that item selected, and if you would keep it there for some predefined time -let's say 1 second, the selection would "expire" and the menu would be left open for tapping !?

This change might of course increase accidental menu selections (your finger slips off), but that's why we have the remorse timer, right ?

I would also appreciate the behaviour as described in the original post - the same behaviour as can be experienced during accepting/ignoring the calls! Please make an option in "Settings/Display/Hold the last item pulley menu" to turn this feature on/off.
