For the N900 there was wifieye which presented all wlans with the channel and signal power at once in a simple diagram. This was very handy to debug wlan problems or find the best frequency for a a new network.

I would like to have a native app with the same (or more) features as wifieye.

Reopen 2019 Unfortunately, WiFi Analyser from my answer doesn't show the 5GHz frequency band, so this is no longer a good solution (The Xperia X has a 5GHz radio in addition to 2.4GHz).

There was a similar app for Symbian Belle and yes, it was very useful at times.

My jolla would be much easier to move around than my laptop... The wlan monitor software (wavemon) runs on raspberry pi so maybe it could be used as the base for an app?

"Wifi Analyser" from ade in Openrepos is updated today and according to version infos, it should now handle also 5GHz range.

The switch to the 5 GHz range (and back to 2.4) is in the pull down menu.

Does this work? Interestingly there is nothing in regard to the 5GHz around here.

Thanks for the fork, though.

I have one request to make. It would be nice to see the networks on the farthest right page with the proper GHz band attached to their name.

It kind of works. There seems to be a bug regarding networks with the same SSID on 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Wifi Analyser will only show the wlan on 2.4GHz and ignore the one on 5GHz. This may explain why some people don't see anything on 5GHz.

@Cmdr_Zod: I've noticed similar issue some time ago. If there are two accesspoints with same SSID on 2,4GHz, only one is shown.

I've written a small wlan scanner. No diagrams yet, just a list of networks, but somebody might find it useful anyway. It's on openrepos: wlanmon.

What bothers me about this app is how the annotations are set up. This copyright aspect puts me off somehow. Aside from that it should be rather easy to fork it and to set it up in such a way as to present to the user 5Ghz band as well. The programming of the app is rather straight-forward in this regard.

In my setup this app is marked as incompatible with a Jolla 1, but maybe this is due to my system setup. F-Droid has several other connectivity apps in their repo.

... plus Android apps cannot access WLAN and Bluetooth directly under the older, AOSP 4 based "AlienDalvik" Android runtime environment (i.e. on all devices older than the XA2 family).

Thus WiFiAnalyzer (Android app) does not work, just as all the other WLAN and Bluetooth "connectivity apps" for Android.
