hi chemist, i mentioned the Android FTP server, didn't it? thus yes, i have installed the Andorid compatibility & am already running a couple Android apps which run ok. alas, this leaves us in "Maemo land" or at the fringe of it... 'til we get a user friendly way to flash the device :-\

EDIT: just read stskeeps' post ( http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1399188&postcount=40 ) this is getting us a lot closer or even beyond Maemo land :-}

https://together.jolla.com/question/61240/install-of-apk-packages-fails-with-fresh-installed-android-runtime/ describes "local apk installation problems", too. And @Rin Kaenbyou commented, that installing "Aptoide Appstore" helps in some cases. Have a look there, too.

    * transfer the file to the device and go to Settings > systems > transfers > tap the file - (chemist's 1st answer)

        * install File Browser from Jolla store - it allows to browse everywhere /!\ - view every (non hidden) file, including SYSTEM files - a very powerful thus also potentially destructive tool /!. it is thus also possible to navigate to any folder (e.g. /home/nemo/Documents , click on the apk package and install it from the (upper) pulley menu
          ## USE AT YOUR OWN RISK ##

please rephrase this - it sounds like "go delete all files but hidden ones, including your system files"

naaa, don't need a file manager for that, now, do we?!? rm -R does a much better job - well, still need a couple flags to make it really horrendous...

Tap it in the downloads folder (Settings->System->Transfers) and be patient it does not tell much until it is installed (reading tap once and wait!).

I just guessed you have the android compatibility installed from Jolla-Store already!

thanks got it over via the N900's bluetooth... installed in a snap only to complain... "Get Google Play Services" is this part of the (dev mode) Google Play hack?

misterc ( 2014-02-19 02:59:35 +0300 )edit

learn to read clearly mentioned the (dev mode) Google Play hack thus i'm aware of it and don't care to put my device in dev mode / breaking the warranty.

and what the command to install apk via terminal ? For example I saw the skipe updated on 1mobile store, Pressed to update, it downloaded but not installed.. Tried option to instal via 1mobile, but nothing happens.. Found the file downliaded to /data/app but also install option from Filetug app didn't do notging. One way to update is removing app and installing new vrrsion from the store..

did you install "File Browser" from (Jolla) Store? after taping on an apk file you can install it by pulling down
