when in text selection mode in dalvik vm, cannot get vkb to appear

is this normal? you know the two little bluish wedge-like shape that appear around text to indicate you are in text-selection mode (e.g. http://androiddev.ir/design/media/text_input_textselection.png)?

when it appears i cannot get the sailfish VKB to appear. i have an android device and the keyboard stays on screen when this appears. it is useful sometimes when you still need the keyboard to continue typing e.g. you block select a some text then you go to the keyboard to type something over it.
