Almost all of my trousers have leg pockets, but not my "finest" pair. My old phone was tiny and there was no problem putting it in the side pocket. But the Jolla phone is too big for that. So... How do I wear my Jolla on more festive occasions?

Update
My jolla will end up in three different places depending on the occasion.

  1. In a homemade folded horisontal leather/felt belt pocket.

  2. In a stealthy leg pocket in a new pair of trousers.

  3. In a modified vest pocket.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I can now mark this question as answered.

The main issues with size are: a) fit securely in pocket, i.e. not loosing the device b) withstand pressure and not crack the screen, I tend to use a leather pouch to keep overall size small

Festive occasion? Leave your jolla and any other phone at home.

@Anna - It would be nice, but I need to be available at all times (see the seniorTOH thread). I even wear a Bluetooth headset at weddings...

Look for cases made for Sony Xperia Z1. They are perfect size for Jolla. I'm using a belt case (link below) while waiting for something better, made specialy for my Jolla.

@eson - that case was subtle and practical. ...and the price was right too. Tackar som ödmjukast.

Get a new pair of "finest" trousers with big enough pockets? This isn't a Jolla problem, as it applies to belts, wallets, and so on.

My fiancee sort of likes seeing my new and improved (slimmer) bottom in a tighter package. ...and I like her watching me... I lost almost 20 kilos some years ago and it is a ego boost to wear non-sloppy clothes at times. But I will keep my eyes open for better trousers. I will.

vattuvarg ( 2014-02-23 14:11:40 +0300 )edit

Ouh, come on, this is a fun question and given the recent growth of current smartphones (phablets, that is), it holds a valid point.

Those of you that like this option, could you please give some tips on styles that would enable putting my jolla in the pockets of a pair of pants?

There are belt holsters/pockets for phones, I heard the Jolla has about the same size as the Samsung. Well, some people say it is not stylish, but I don't care about those people. I cant recommend any certain product, didn't find one yet.

If you want something extraordinary , have a look at the Koffski Slim (I saw it years ago at a trade show, the quality is good, I was just shocked when I saw the price)

I own kind of a waiters belt made for trousers and skirts without pockets (fits a phone and a wallet). Unfortunately I can't provide you a source, the manufacturer has ceased production. Maybe you can find something online, or be creative and make it yourself :-)

I looked at the Koffski line and no.2 would make me look like a gunfighter. :) Cool.

I own an holster of another supplier that I find very comfy https://www.urbantool.com/en/holsters/basicholster.html Jolla fit nicely in the upper pouch (the bigger one). Not as luxuous as Koffski but light and cheaper, you can wash it and wear a color that fits your clothes.

Jtog ( 2014-03-10 15:33:00 +0300 )edit

The urban tools holster would look nice under a jacket. ...something I wear very rarely, if ever. Thanks for the tip, @Jtog. Lots of bags and holsters there...

Today I bought the "hector mobile case 4XL" from the Swedish company www.krusell.se. I can't tell anything about daily usage, but at least it fits the Jolla. I have also bought the "Horizontal Clip Case" from xquisit in size XXL a few weeks ago, it fits the Jolla nicely, but I have noticed that the clip is worn off after very little use, which is disappointing. Update 20161009: The "Horizontal Clip Case" from xquisit in size XXL is definitely not up to the task. I am used to phone cases wear out earlier than the phone, but this product is just of to bad quality, I almost lost my phone when the first one disintegrated at the clip. I now purchased a "York Universal Sleeve 3XL" from bugatti which fits the device and seems to be of good quality. Time will well :-) It also fits the Intex Aqua fish, although a bit tight.

I am not sure if it helps you to find something that meets your expectations, but I use a protective case that was advertised as fitting for a Nexus 5. It has the perfect size for my Jolla.

Could you provide a link for that protective cover?

vattuvarg ( 2014-02-23 15:46:24 +0300 )edit

See http://www.amazon.de/Suncase-Handytasche-Ledertasche-Schutzhülle-Wash-Grün/dp/B00GJIJH7E/ - It's available in a number of colors. Just do a search for "Suncase Nexus 5".

p.a ( 2014-02-23 16:01:58 +0300 )edit

Looks nice. But it's just a case. How do I wear it?

vattuvarg ( 2014-02-23 16:13:49 +0300 )edit

It's a case that can be attached to a belt.

ovekaaven ( 2014-02-23 19:37:16 +0300 )edit

@ovekaaven - Oh... It hangs the phone vertically, I presume?

Oh my, women have the adventage of a clutch bag. ;) But its nevertheless a good question, I have never thought about that... but what do you do with your wallet, it should have at least the same size?

I have a slimmer wallet for those occasions and it goes in the back pocket. ...and the wallet bends without breaking any glass...

Back pocket and remove it before you sit down. If you wear a jacket better keep it in the inner pocket. Yes the phone is kind of big.

I would only need to forget that phone in my back pocket once to be really sorry...

On more festive occasions ...

Unless your trousers (Swedish: "finbyxor", in this case) have deep-enough pockets, what about a waistcoat (Swedish: "väst"; they usually don't have that large pockets, but if you're willing to "mod" some, you should be able to make a fitting inner pocket; also: if the occasion is festive enough, maybe you'll be wearing a jacket (Swedish: "kavaj") anyway)?

@phle - I very rarely wear a dressy jacket, but I do wear a vest at times. An absolutely mad idea hit me with that vest suggestion. Would it be possible to make an oldfashion hand watch (with a chain and all) but with a simple smartphone inside? Tack för tipset!

You should ask for a chained TOH ;-)

@vattuvarg, @jgr - What about a customized, SailfishOS-driven, Pebble, then? :-)

Customized Pebble-holder, in the form/shape of a pocket watch in a "hunter-case" and with a watch chain.

The Pebble "speaks" over bluetooth, so even though you'd still need to carry your Jolla with you, with this solution there would be no need to wear it accessable.

Could be rather stylish, I'd say.

(link to existing Jolla2gether-questions mentioning Pebble)

@phle - Not as stylish as Misfit Shine, but more functional. Worth keeping an eye open for.

vattuvarg ( 2014-02-24 12:23:16 +0300 )edit

@vattuvarg - Hm, it's all a matter of what options you know exists (or can imagine), so ... :-)

I got this pouch : http://www.bugatti-mobilecases.de/index.php?page=kategorien_detail&gTyp=1&pStyle=211&pKat=771

Not reinforced, so don't put it in back pocket of jeans while riding bike, but gives a small amount of padding and importantly keep the scratches off the screen. Elegant and has nice feel of leather. I put it head down into the pouch so the ringer speakers face outwards.

Sometimes the lessons in German pay off... Nice cases but... How do I wear them?

vattuvarg ( 2014-02-27 19:55:15 +0300 )edit

simply an interim solution offering a modest amount of protection en attendant.

Concept-only this far, so this isn't the solution for your question, but if this would become reality ... :-)

I completely agree with Harri on this one, although it would be even cooler as a pocket watch...

I found this on the web: Twin Zip Belt Organiser Pouch. I accommodates both my Jolla and the N9 at the same time.

The colours are a bit strange, but there were lots of other colour combinations available at their website. Definitely practical.

vattuvarg ( 2014-03-10 12:15:20 +0300 )edit

Use an old sock (clean), the hole can be used for the camera. ;-)

manu007 ( 2014-03-10 15:50:40 +0300 )edit

Cannot think of any sock that would be acceptable on those occasions... Very unlike suggestion, though. :)

I have purchased one year ago this one from piquadro: CA3084B2/N

English (US): http://www.piquadro.com/us/organized-shoulder-pocketbook-with-ipadr-mini.html

italian: http://www.piquadro.com/it/for-apple/borsello-organizzato-porta-ipadr-mini.html

and is very small and stylish (piquadro makes good looking accessory for tech devices), all made of true leather.

I use it for weddings and other occasions where I need an elegant solution to bring my wallet and cellphone with me (and can't fit in pockets) piquadro sells worldwide, has shops in lot of cities.
