Occasionally I have no sound from my speaker. The lack of sound seems to affect all types of sound - media files, ringtones, warnings etc. If I connect to bluetooth speakers or use headphones, I get sound OK.

This morning for example the sound died again. I noticed it gradually die as the alarm tone was ringing. It started out OK but got gradually weaker and slightly distorted, then there was no sound at all.

On occasion it has been OK after a reboot, but this might just have been "luck" -as sometimes (e.g. today) a couple of reboots have not fixed the problem.

I have also tried using pulseaudio --kill; pulesaudio --start in a terminal. On one occasion I convinced myself that this worked, but again it might just have been luck - I have tried this today with no effect.

So I suspect I have an intermittent hardware problem (which I guess means I need to send it back to Jolla), but I'm hoping that it might be software-related and that someone out there might know a fix. Can anyone help?

And if I do need to return my Jolla, how do I do this? I raised a request with Jolla Service and Support 8 days (!) ago but have heard nothing from them. Their "Repair" webpage says (regarding repair for jolla.com customers): "If you have ordered your Jolla product from Jolla.com (Jolla's webshop), please see instructions here [under construction]." - i.e. there is no useful information there.

Thanks.

I had the same issue, but the speaker in my jolla seemed to be broken. I did a factory reset to 1.0.0.5 but still no sound via speaker. Updated to 1.0.2.5 with no luck. I opened a case at jolla.zendesk.com. After 9 days the first response, were care asked me to give full details of the phone, imei, serialnumber, ... A few days later i got the next response with a fedex airway bill. So i called my local fedex office and the phone was picked up one workday later. Now it is on the way to finland

Thanks Stefan. I guess I just have to wait for care to get back to me then... nearly 2 weeks now ;)

Hi boggins. I got my Jolla back today via fedex. Optima Service got my parcel on friday, 28th of february. They repaired it on 3th of march (next workday). "Speaker changed." was written on one of the sheets.

On 4th of March it was dispatched and 2 days later it arrived back in Austria. I didn't get any information on repair-status or shipment information, so i was quite surprised when the parcel came back.

Once it is at Optima Service, things go fast.

I hope your case is processed soon

It looks like they repaired and returned your jolla pretty quickly then. They have begun handling my query today, and I have just sent them the phone details, so we'll see how it goes. :)

I got my Jolla back last Monday (that's more than 5 weeks since my original email to care, but it's back). Speaker working fine. Then guess what, speaker is dead again about one week after return. With the csd tool I also get no sound from loudspeaker (but I do get sound from ringtone - but that's coming from the receiver speaker, not the loudspeaker). Headphone and bluetooth-speaker sound are both fine. What's going on here? Am I just unlucky? I guess it's back to Jolla again and another long wait....

Here is one possible cause why you have missing speaker audio. If you have tried every SW settings to recover audio you can try this. Repair bad speaker connection inside phone.

Before trying this be aware that you may lost warranty and can destroy your phone, if you do not know what you are doing. If you are not familiar with repair of phones do not make training with this one. I open backcover of phone removing first backcover and battery and SD memory and sim Then there is 11 pcs TX5 screws. When you have phone opened, you can see speaker element in bottom corner. If you follow wiring of speaker it is going via springs to the back cover and back to printed circuit. These springs in speaker element did have bad contact to back cover. You can bend slightly these springs of speaker to have better connection to backpanel and get speaker working again.

Good luck and do not try this, if this is first time that you open a phone. Br: Eero

So I have exactly the same problem for a month now. First I was wandering why there is so much missed calls and messages during first week of this problem. Found that reattaching TOH brings sounds back. But strangely when I play some ringtone after few second or more speaker mutes again. Some times reattaching helps, sometimes it doesn't. First I thought this is a software problem and reattaching TOH somehow reset it. Untill now! Accidentally I dropped it on the table while playing ringtone and changing TOH from Keira to Red speaker begins to work! I made a little knock on the speaker area, it mutes. Knocking again working again. Knocking couple times with force, speaker remains working and doesn't mute anymore.

So it is actually HW problem. Does speaker's membrane stucking somehow or is there bad contacts.
