System settings have Sync option and Sync History view opens.. It says that "No syncs done yet." How can i start syncing? Maybe it's automatic, but somehow I get the feeling that I could start that by myself..

If you look into http://jolla.com/guide/ at import contacts, there they mention syncing Google or Facebook contacts. Maybe that is meant by sync. But that's just a theory and if I could choose, I'd like the sync to do what you proposed ;-)

I was able to initiate syncing in N9 via bluetooth. It could be that currently Jolla can't start syncing, but only accept it from other devices or services.

Quite a good question. I don't understand this point either, because I have activated Facebook and Google and there is always "no syncs done yet"....?

Currently syncing is just possible when initiated from other devices. And syncing with "services" is also just a place holder at the moment. To sync with N9, do:

1) Jolla: Settings -> System Settings -> Bluetooth: enable Bluetooth, and give a "Device nickname", e.g. 'karhu' and set visibility to "on for 15 minutes"

2) N9: Settings -> Sync and backup -> Sync -> + (button at the bottom) if you already have sync targets, otherwise "Add device"

The bluetooth pairing dialogue pops up let it search until it finds your Jolla device, with the "Device nickname" (in our example it's 'karhu') you gave it earlier.

Once it found it, select it and press "Continue"

3)

N9: confirm the pairing

Jolla: accept the pairing

4) Afaik, just contact syncing is supported currently

N9: Select "Contacts" and disable "Events and to-dos" and "Notes" and press "Sync"

5) check now the address book on your Jolla, it should have the contacts synced from the N9, note that if you have MS Exchange contacts or other remote contacts from e.g. Google Talk, the N9 does not sync them to an other device, just contacts created on the N9!

Jolla: Settings -> System settings -> Sync: should now also an entry: Nokia N9 xyz; success; date

In future when you want to sync, you can skip the pairing part, since the N9 has it already stored, just go to "Settings -> Sync and backup -> Sync" and choose your Jolla device there to initiate a new sync.

The same procedure should work more or less the same for other Nokia phones (at least S60, not sure about S40 and Lumias).

Same procedure to sync contacts from Nokia N900.

I asked once this question here https://together.jolla.com/question/151052/i-could-sync-only-contacts-from-n9-to-intex-aqua-fish/ and I think it fits to this question. Of course it is not exactly an answer to the question, but it gives valuable information.

So far I know that sync development in Jolla was focusing on online services - bluetooth and usb is not supported and not working in Sailfish OS except contacts.

Syncing contacts works only one time (I heard) - anything else out of scope, so do not expect that you can sync two-way or you could initiate multiple syncs.

It is a pity! I was looking at the BT code few weeks ago and found out that it is for bluez4 while we have bluez5 since Sailfish 2.2 (if I recall correctly could be also 2.1).

It will be quite an effort to update the code to work with bluez5 because so many things changed on bluez side. Very sad. If someone wants to work on it we can share the burden.
