after few weeks of single handed usage, the sharp edge at the bottom corner of the phone hurts the inner palm.

this also limits the reach of the thumb, as the user stretch the thumb to reach far regions of the screen, the corner press against the palm causing discomfort.

see the bottom left corner pressing against the palm

also depends on how one holds the phone

any other users experiencing this? Jolla product design team: any comments

do you think a TOH with curved corners will be better in this regard?

I've got a relatively small hand and am surprised how it does _not_ bother me. Maybe I'll suffer it more when one handed operations are enhanced (e.g., zoom in map) and/or we get a swype-like keyboard.

i think the sharp edges are kind of uncomfortable when i press the phone against my ear during a phone call.

One more thing that sharp corners "do" is making it difficult to slide or remove the phone from tight(ish) side loading pockets.

Personally i don't hold the phone in a way to hurt my palm but the reach problem is there. Sharp corners and huge bezels cause that.

Personally I haven't had issues with the sharp corners causing discomfort, and I like how the unit looks as it is now. But if many users experience the same problems as the original poster and ApB, wouldn't it open up a (small) market for another type of customized TOH's with different handling characteristics, in this case rounded corners, maybe some type of grip- enhancing design on the TOH for better handling, a stickier surface for example?

@Kayakist While differently shaped TOH might help a bit the problem remains up to a point because the main half has a sharp corner. Jolla IMO needs a more elegant and thoughtful design for the 2nd device.

I'm pretty sure Apple has protected oblong phones with rounded edges, and already sued Samsung to death over this. So the chances are low that this is going to come.

I understood the problem to be the sharp lower corners of TOH, not the overall design of the phone. And how far does Apples' hoarding of basic forms go, anyway? If the protection considers just the general form of a phone, you probably still could produce a round- cornered TOH to go with the sharp-cornered Jolla main unit.

Not sure this is too true, the Nokia 5800 (as well as earlier Nokia phones) have rounder corners too shrug

Sorry for necro-posting, I just found this thread whilst looking for something else.

But...

Would it not be cool if the Jolla phone was shaped like the Jolla icons? One corner rounded, the others rectangular. Jolla can even patent that and sue the crap out of Apple if they try to immitate :)
