It would be nice if the email client provides these features:

  • multiple identities for an account
  • a "show/hide" option for each folder or label of an IMAP account
  • the number of unread/new emails in each folder (with an action "update all folders")

EDIT:

  • an "identity" is composed at least by a name, an email address and a signature. Using an account, I would choose to answer with my professional or personnal identity. (Same feature present in Thunderbird)
  • a "show/hide" option for each folder is a way to view and synchronize only some selected folders.

And it would be really nice if it would actually send email to my providers SMTP server :-) Currently I can't get that to work. Gmail works fine though.

Same issue here with DNA's SMTP-server.

Can you clarify what you mean for first and second suggestions ? Third one is there, excepted the option to update all folders.

  • IMAP idle for me is a must
  • Schedule per account.
  • integration with file browser, so all file types can be attached
  • subscribing only to some folders

  • When you reply to a mail no In-Reply-To header is added which breaks threading in mail clients that support that.
  • When replying to a mail the client always uses From instead of Reply-To.
  • Select folders to sync and notify about.
  • Sort IMAP folder list hierarchically.

Server-side search is useful too (for huge mailboxes).

it would probably be good, to show the Subject line in the mail view, too. ATM you can see the Subject only in the overview and in the "detail" view (when swiping to the left from that particular mail). IMO it would be good, to have the Subject visible when reading the mail body. And also a "view mail source" entry in pulley menu would make sense (to see headers and so on)?

+1 on mail source. This makes it much easier to identify phishing mails.

A "view mail source" entry in the context menu (long press) of a single message would allow to inspect suspicious mails and in particular the header.

It would also help to be able to have a look into the "detail" view first before opening the mail body itself.

Any status update possible on this issue? Does it deserve the 'roadmap' tag?

I have also thinked that why signature is below the text?

Normally I use top answer and then my signature is in wrong position, specially if conversation is long.

Please add option to choose if signature is in top or bottom.

I don't now if it right here, but i will post it. I would like to have the possibility to switch from mail to mail while reading, maybe with a little arrow at the bottom of the mail. not allway go back to the list and pick the next message.

and i have the problem, that not all folders form my imap server will be synced. can i choose which will be synced?

Coming from this https://together.jolla.com/question/110334/inconsistency-tapping-mail-group-and-item-in-events-view-behaves-different/ request I like to request the full blown IMAP support as follows:

  • Enhance accounts to watch several IMAP folders for new mail
  • Separate those folders in the overview-list on the email app landing page too
  • Separate those folders into separate notification sections within events-view while reflecting the account's and folder's names
  • From the question linked above: open/link each notification section header to its specific folder

The in email reply quote needs to be improved a little. Instead of the excessive usage of >> symbols, maybe a the line system like used in most other clients now. It will make reading long conversations easier and meaningful.

Also option to save default folder would be handy. I personally prefer the "All mail" because it provides with a reference to all my sent mail.

Edit: Even the option to disable quotes all together is appreciated. I guess you should just opensource the app like what you guys did with the web browser so that people can fix issues or pay people to add features.

Use proper signature separation. It should be dash-dash-space-new line. Currently the space is missing.

Related to the above, show an empty preview if all the email contains is a (properly formed) signature.

Sometimes people send just attachments without any text, but signatures may still be added. It makes little sense to show just the signature in the preview.

pichlo ( 2015-10-06 13:01:17 +0300 )edit

@pichlo Is that space really vital?

mkld ( 2015-10-07 20:18:01 +0300 )edit

I would not say vital but it is a common convention that has been around since the 1970's:

The Usenet standards specify that a signature block should be displayed as plain text in a fixed-width font (no HTML, images, or other rich text), and should be delimited from the body of the message by a single line consisting of exactly two hyphens, followed by a space, followed by the end of line (i.e., "-- \n").

A properly delimited signature is automatically recognized by some email client and e.g. marked in a different colour or font style, stripped in a preview or automatically cut off in replies.

Please support the CRAM-MD5 auth method. It prevents me from sending emails from my account, which other people also mentioned in the comments.

@tadzik - Can you configure the account with a smtp server(sending) using one of the latest releases ? Since update 6 is no longer possible to configure accounts with invalid parameters.

I configured it on *.7.16. I have no means of updating to latest now, can try in a week or so.

If is correctly configured it should work then, otherwise it would have failed during configuration, check if you have some emails stuck in the outbox folder, possible large emails that server reject.
