Edit 24th Feb 2016: Also affects uploading by browser.

Hi,

I was just in a situation where I received boarding passes for the entire family in five different emails. I could download and view them without issues, but when I wanted to send them to the hotel reception for printout, they were not to be found anywhere. In the Documents app, they were all there, however with the same name, "boardingpass.pdf", but I could not a) rename them or b) attach them in an email.

What's the issue here? Both of these actions should be fairly fundamental for a working smart phone.

Hi, I just tried and can confirm there is a bug by forwarding an email, you should retag your question as a bug.

Meanwhile you can send a new mail from the Documents app, open the first boarding pass and once displayed "clic" on it, a menu will appear on top allowing you to share by Bluetooth/Email... This worked for me.

Have a nice journey!

Well, it's not so much the forwarding (since I actually wanted all boarding passes attached in one email, rather than forwarding five emails with a boarding pass). However, the file attachment dialog in the email app did not show the downloaded pdfs.

In any case, your solution does work, but I need to send the boarding passes individually as well...

The most straightforward way to solve the issue is creating a symlink to the mail- attachments directory by

cd ~/Documents && ln -s ../Downloads/mail-attachments mail-attachments

This way, all files in this folder show up when Documents is selected in the email app.

I agree with you that the email client needs some polishing and the scenario you described is indeed, unpleasant, being so common and yet hard to reach. Hopefully, the next update will bring improvements.

Until then, you can copy or move downloaded files (from /home/nemo/Downloads/mail_attachments ) using the file browser app available in the Jolla store. Once you place them in the Documents folder (for example), you will be able to attach them to an e-mail.

Basically, using the file browser works. However, since the name of each file is the same, I run into problems. Of course, one can mv the files in the terminal, but this is quite labourious. I think the easiest way to do this is to use cargo-dock.

So you can add a second tag "Feature request", because email can only select attachments from /home/nemo/Documents (or Music/Pictures/Videos) and not /home/nemo/Downloads/mail_attachments (where it's anyway very painfull to retreive something in a all numbered sub-folders). Meanwhile I would use "Cargo Dock" app you can find in Jolla Store:

  1. select Documents
  2. swipe right and open Downloads then mail-attachment
  3. browse the numbered folders to find one of the file you want to send
  4. press on it to select and use the pulley menu to "Link to other side" (to save storage but you can "Copy" if you want to keep the document even if you delete original email)
  5. use the lower pulley menu to return to mail-attachements and repeat from 3.
  6. finally go to email app and add attachment from Documents (upper pulley menu, you can select'em all at the same time)

Yep, I should've looked into cargo-dock earlier. This seems to help me with most problems. I guess my second feature request would be to not put the downloaded attachments into numbered folders.
