Is there any way to automatically synchronize photos to cloud from the phone, for example google, owncloud or dropbox (I guess apples walled garden is out of the question)? This is must have feature, manually copying is so 90's.

Support for viewing and also transferring photos to cloud (OneDrive and Dropbox currently) was just merged to our master codeline. It will be released once the feature has been fully tested internally (most likely with 2.0.2 version, but possibly later if substantial problems are found). In the future, we hope to support opt-in setting to automatically upload newly-taken photos to the cloud.

You can see some of the (cloud to device) synchronization code in https://github.com/nemomobile/buteo-sync-plugins-social/commit/c80097e819ce313c5d69702aef58efd4efc1c74f and https://github.com/nemomobile/buteo-sync-plugins-social/commit/4524543874554bb605d6ca3c510ac662a5b5d97a which download metadata from cloud and populate device database. The code to download and cache images is also written but is part of a currently closed-source component (jolla-gallery plugins).

In the future, we also would like to support this type of feature for other cloud services including OwnCloud - the more votes this gets, the higher priority that task will receive when we plan our upcoming work.

ownCloud would be my top priority as OneDrive and Dropbox have zero relevance to me

Owncloud vote! Especially if that might become the first part of an official Owncloud account support in Sailfish. You've already done the contact and calendar sync.

definitely OWNcloud and nothing else. I came to Jolla to avoid private giants like Google to own my data, that's not to start doing the same with Dropbox :-/

ownCloud it must be. We are talking open source here. It's good to have some new Official support to some good cloud and what Sailfish can adopt to itself. :)

Just installing this pkgs and using them without gui wouldn't help?

Such functionality is being developed for Jolla by Finnish F-Secure, software called Younited. The announcement: http://blog.younited.com/2014/02/20/announcing-younited-for-jolla/

That was fast answer, thanks! I hope they succeed gluing things together seamlessly.

nice in first place..but to me it's going to be the 3rd cloud service to use, because every device I owned used an other one.. Would be nice to have a dropbox integration still.

I quickly tried Younited in OSX. The idea seems to be to integrate all cloud services into one, so you just need to give it access to your other cloud services. Younited seems to be supported in most common platforms, so in principle switching from picasa/dropbox to this wouldn't be impossible for me.

Well this was the good news. Bad news is that it feels like a beta software. Actually it seems to be synchronizing picasa and dropbox...

It's a fairly new service which stands out in being not American and thus is beyond the reach of their spying policies. While it's of little concern to our everyday life, it does, if enabled, represent an unfavorable direction of progress when it comes to online privacy.

For me will be good app as is FotoShareN9 .. with my own choice of backend service. Include own servers.

If you are not afraid of the command line, I've created a perl script to automatically copy new photos to an owncloud server. The code can be found at https://github.com/umglurf/owncloud-uploader/.
