Let users share their contact data via QR codes

Since it's tedious to type people's numbers and other contact information, allow users to share their contact information via displaying a QR code. This is much faster than sharing via bluetooth and QR codes are more widely recognized by non-techies.

Not only for own contact. It would be nice to have it for all contacts in address book. But I think this must not be native implemented. It can be done as app.

n900 has a contacts plugin that generates dynamically the contact QR code, which could be shown on screen or save it as an image. it would be nice to have a similar funtionallity for jolla

See this question too: https://together.jolla.com/question/27950/transfer-data-with-light/

From one of my comments there:

Until then I was hoping to have different ways of transmitting data with light collected under the darkMess umbrella. Morse code is standardized and should be easy to capture with the camera. QR is also easy to do. The animated QR idea should be easy to test, etc.

Even more needed as long as NFS is borked for normal usage. :)

Brilliant idea. Definitely useful when possible for any contact.

Thank you! Code of the month! I've been waiting for this since I first started my Jolla. Swedish translation coming up asap. :)

Maybe a downsideUp mode too?

vattuvarg ( 2015-03-07 09:49:00 +0300 )edit

@eson thanks a lot! There are some problems loading the translations (it's not very well documented and the way example does it is not working properly), but I'm sure it's just a question of time :)

@vattuvarg Do you mean that the code would be rotated, so that you don't have to rotate your phone when showing it to someone? good idea!

@vattuvarg, I see, that's actually very nice, coming right up!
