Jolla not recognized when connected via USB to car stereo

Got error message like " USB not readable" when trying to connect Jolla (selecting either PC or developer mode). Is there an existing possibility to connect a Jolla to a car stereo via USB: special setting to be activated, etc ? Is it car stereo type dependent? Any work around other than AUX connection via jack?

I'm not sure if this is really a Jolla issue. The radio in my car e.g. only recognises iPods through the USB connection.

The jolla communicates with the MTP protocol. Does the car stereo speak that language?

If your car stereo wants to access the audio files on your Jolla it needs to support the Media Transfer Protocol because Jolla does not support classic USB Mass Storage for several reasons.

Car stereos, up to now anyway, read USB Mass Storage devices, and don't know about the MTP protocol used by Jolla, and recent Android devices, which is not backwards compatible with USB Mass Storage, unfortunately.

The only workaround I can see, other than the obvious (but also not very usefull one of buying a stereo which supports MTP - if there is any), is to have an USB adapter that converts MTP to Mass Storage. Altough I have never seen one, I just figure that such an adapter is possible to make. Maybe starting with an Arduino board.

Anyway I feel your pain. Hope to have helped.

right, if your stereo supports that option

Having same problem with Pioneer MVH-160UI Manual page 5, getting just Error-19... with Tahkalampi 1.0.19. Based on previous comments, I've to find some cable to see if the AUX option would work. So there are no tricks one could use for the MTP? I even installed the vendor's support app, but that doesn't do anything either. Well, charging works, that is something, at least.

What about having the music files on a SD card? This is a mass storage in FAT32 that should be readable by the car stereos.

As a workaround you could connect the Jolla via Bluetooth and this way at least use your car's audio. An obvious drawback is that playback may then only be controlled via the Jolla phone, not the car's stereo.

you could try to enable mass storage in your jolla in developer mode - needs linux knoweladge or friend .

https://together.jolla.com/question/10002/alternative-to-mtp-usb-mass-storage/

i hadnt time to try, but i plan to buy big SD card and create mass storage on the half of the removable card, now i just use jack to jack it plays too

  • calls from loudspeakers

  • wire to aux is not cool as ubs in the handholder
