Nice working with the icons :) They are really well done

The wireframe icons are simply fantastic. Thanks!

Great care and system backup is advised to anyone who fiddles with the icons! After installing a theme that includes new icons, and then removing it, the whole OS was devoid of system icons! I had a lot of trouble getting them back, system wipe included! Be careful!

Great icons! I love the wire frame ones. Now need to drop them into my Jolla as the default are bad to not say ugly.

difrost ( 2014-07-17 14:14:24 +0300 )edit

can you add the "Docs Scanner" Jolla style icon?

Unlike enough? :-D

Minor update: Added accounts-icon to archive. Stock icon is looking like an alien in /settings/backups if you use wf-icon-theme for all core apps. ;-)

Unlike enough? Yes. The maps one is fantastic. The one for people was really good too.

Yes, these are really great and the idea of an associated Ambiance is great as well especially if they were able to change colour according to the ambiance selected.

All we now need is to have the whole lot packaged up in an installer.

Have you thought about doing a 3D version of these?

Maybe is Black and White ambience by @Markkyboy something for you?

Nice icons. I would like to see more descriptive icon for Documents app. IMHO the current pie chart icon is a bit too abstract (but that's just my opinion). It's good that Settings icon is kept yellowish, easier to adapt. Calendar has quite limited contrast from the background, I'd consider fine-tuning it a bit. People unfamiliar to camera shutter technology might find that camera icon a bit strange to them, problem or not, don't know.

I am not good with art in general, here is my thoughts, I like the uniformity that the yellowish background brings, e.g. for jolla apps, but it might restrict the area of the icon. The browser icon might be confused with the navigation app. The calendar app is a bit abstract, otoh the notes icon has too much detail? I would prefer the terminal colour darker or black. For the navigation icon, i would prefer a map rather the square rectangles, the documents app is a file viewer. Nice work tho

pmelas ( 2014-03-30 22:36:24 +0300 )edit

LOVE 'EM! creamy tone of borders is particularly nice, maybe a bit less red, more sandy

bennypr0fane ( 2014-06-22 22:56:10 +0300 )edit

@Moth it's really great too! maybe you good make thinking on icon type adapted to the ambience. then the os could update the icons depening on the choosen ambience. that could be a great idea.

How about some new folder-icons? Suggestions are welcome! :)

Path is: /usr/share/themes/jolla-ambient/meegotouch/icons

You can't simply add them (hardcoded?) - you have to replace some of the 16 preinstalled icons atm (backup!)

very cool! and they still use the sailfish shapes...

mgbler ( 2014-06-11 23:27:40 +0300 )edit

@mgbler thank you, i think it's crucial to do it the unlike way, though sometime it seems to be easier to break the rules...

But, as always, the most exhausting path is - to let it look elementary! :-]

Some that I would use but would surely be helpful to many other people could be "Social" (quite self explanatory), "Photography" (Instagram, various filter/effect editors, cameraplus etc.), "Travel" (for maps, public trasportation planners, compass, etc.), and maybe "System" (which in my use is slightly different from "tools", where I put calculator, timer, qr code scanner, translator and stuff like that while in "System" I put Jolla store, file browsers, terminal, battery monitor, top-like apps, etc.)

Sorry, but I can't also come up with ideas on how to make those at the moment :P

@Moth - That was a really nice one. Could it be modified to echo the original dark tweetian logo, to differentiate it from an official Twitter client?

vattuvarg ( 2014-04-15 10:53:51 +0300 )edit

@vattuvarg - thank you, it should be possible to modify it if we're talking about color-picking only, but i would need the authors permission to use the original artwork - i don't know if it's published under free license... :/

Moth ( 2014-04-15 19:13:45 +0300 )edit

awesome! i like the birds shape being integrated in the icons one. however i'd remove the inner shadow to make it look more like the default icons... (also i wouldn't use the backgrounds blue as gradient color for the bird) ... hope i find some time to make a rip-off :-p

This is a reworked example of the icon for the nice native app "Screenshot" just to show how precise an icon-shape can be now, knowing that the Dev is struggeling a bit with this... ;)

I would love to have that chat icon for a xmpp multiuser chat client (muchacho might be a good name for it). The icon is clean and fun. Would it be hard to make a colour version?

Could the feed icon be done with a bent zigzag starting at the center of the small circle? Adding the four quartercircles to the set of graphics primitives for icons only makes the set more flexible... Here it would make the feed icon more beautiful, imho.

vattuvarg ( 2014-05-10 18:34:08 +0300 )edit

@vattuvarg a) You're welcome. Color should be easy. Any suggestions?

b) Did some variations during the last days. Find another one above. Better? :-)

Moth ( 2014-05-11 01:38:55 +0300 )edit

@Moth

Yellow with a blush. Like someone aroused or intoxicated. ...or both... :)

The problem with the feed icons is that the circular lines are everything but concentric. The circle in the bottom right corner seems to poke the lines from below and the upper left seems inflated somehow. That is why i suggested using an out-of-standard quartercircle as the base shape. Of those two the first one (the one without the "pointy nose") is better.

vattuvarg ( 2014-05-11 02:45:07 +0300 )edit

Ok, i'm going back to work now... ;-)

Have a look at the comments for orienteering compass. Your wireframe compass icon is better...

Moth ( 2014-04-22 02:31:34 +0300 )edit

Overall these look great, I have to agree on the confusion between the browser & nav icons. The browser icon looks like the HERE icon which is where the confusion would start. I think the Nav icon should have the position marker as completely Red then it could be seen as what is generally accepted now. Dunno what I would do for the browser icon though, but I feel it does need a rework.

bmwebb ( 2014-05-02 09:33:03 +0300 )edit

still think the borders could use less red

It's a shame though. The app is in alpha state but is quite usable. I use it very often to read some fan-fiction ebooks on the Jolla.

@Moth any plans to make app icons with a design style similar to jolla buttons icons. i mean colourless, two shaded wire form.. like those icons for toggling wifi, GPS etc on the settings page.
