Ok, the disturbing stretching of icons in launcher view is fixed. Now it seems to be possible to create REAL 85.4px (unlike enough...) shapes. :D

Nice working with the icons :) They are really well done

The wireframe icons are simply fantastic. Thanks!

Great care and system backup is advised to anyone who fiddles with the icons! After installing a theme that includes new icons, and then removing it, the whole OS was devoid of system icons! I had a lot of trouble getting them back, system wipe included! Be careful!

Great icons! I love the wire frame ones. Now need to drop them into my Jolla as the default are bad to not say ugly.

difrost ( 2014-07-17 14:14:24 +0300 )edit

can you add the "Docs Scanner" Jolla style icon?

@cemoi71 Tons of rusty steel and golden appliquees? Senseless gears, mechanics and optics, inspired by the work of H.G. Wells and successors? Yay! ;-)

Ok, i'll be the dumb one to ask this, but how do we load these fabulous icons onto our phone?

bmwebb ( 2014-05-20 03:59:50 +0300 )edit

Certainly not a dumb question, since it's not exactly obvious!
I searched and found this thread, where the locations of the icons are listed:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=92073

Stock/native apps icons can be found here:
/usr/share/themes/jolla-ambient/meegotouch/icons/

I found all 3rd party icons here (even though the linked thread suggests only some are here):
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/86x86/apps

Android app icons can be found here:
/var/lib/apkd/

I would recommend backing up these folders before you replace the icons.
Do this by using rsync, preferably, so permissions are preserved. Example:
cd /usr/share/themes/jolla-ambient/meegotouch/
rsync -av icons icons_bak

(First you change directory to where the folder you want to copy is, then you rsync it with the -av parameters specificed.)

Note: Only the first package has filenames that correspond to the actual names of the original icons.
I renamed these to the corresponding icons I wanted to replace.

Thanks, I'll now give it a go.

It would be great if someone could package these up into an app that would allow easy installation & directory backup.

bmwebb ( 2014-05-20 04:14:21 +0300 )edit

You can find the name of the icon the application uses by its desktop link, which can be found here:
/usr/share/applications/

It's also possible to store all custom icons in a different location, and then change the reference to the icons in the .desktop files (in /usr/share/applications) to this location, if you prefer to do it that way.

Also, to state the obvious, you need developer mode enabled to do any of this.

oitos ( 2014-05-20 04:18:48 +0300 )edit

These are amazing! Is there any chance you could make wire-frame folder icons as well?

Very nice, I like it because it seems compatible with dark-on-light themes; if they pup up once. I can't emphasize how much I am disappointed about the 2.0.1/Taalojärvi release! It's a maintenance relase and they fixed really a lot of things, but polishing DropBox or OneDrive, before working on severe usability issues like changeable font-sizes, or having dark-on-light ambience(s) is ridiculous. Not to mention the officially unusable "dialer" or "email" app. OpenRepos has hundreds of patches of which at least 10 are essential to sensible and consistent usage... omg. Thankfully the community is working as hard as possible on these daily-usage-show-stoppers – as far as it's possible on a closed project utilizing open ones. Thanks for sharing your great results with us! -Mano

@ Moth..Once Again I'm loving the Icons i tried them all !!! they are great...especially the wire frame

Perhaps you could package them and throw them in openRepos like the Terminal UI Theme... That would be awesome plus you would help the guys who don,t know how to install ( i,m pretty sure everyone on jollaTogether knows ) that would be unlikely :).. but you never know

Kind Regards J.Neutron

I think that would be a good idea, there are some of us who do not know how to do it easily. I guess I could with a bunch of screwing around, but I would much prefer if it was made simple stupid. :-)

Unfortunately i'm not a developer - i'm just the gfx-guy without any skills in scripting or building packages :( But you're right: An app for theme-changing would be great!

Hi @ Moth perhaps you can find some assistance at TMO (maemo.org)..there are alot of great devs who have knowledge of packaging and lots more

Kind Regards ( ps keep up the good work )

i really hope that someone could done theme changing app, i really dont want to break my phone, and i didn't understand those instructions (sorry, but i didn't understand what i should replace with new icons and how system "knows" which icon belongs which app. tell me if i worry dump things but i hope that there would be such an app. keep on good work, love ur icons, thanks!

maranirhis ( 2015-01-07 18:49:47 +0300 )edit

@maranirhis i totally agree with your request and i don't think it's a good idea to twist your system files if you're not absolutely sure what you're doing. fyi: system knows the icon by the corresponding xyz.desktop text-file in /usr/share/applications. You can learn a lot about how things are working by just READING some of them... ;)

Moth ( 2015-01-07 19:26:37 +0300 )edit

@Moth yeah, but am i right: these icons from u are JUST pictures, these doesn't include any .desktop text-file? if so, pictures in folder /usr/share/themes/jolla-ambient/meegotouch are in random (or alphabethic or something) order, so how system knows that just this X icon meant to be picture of the launcher of specific app? etc. that system knows that picture X is meant to be cover or pic or whatever of launcher of browser? Thats why i'm bit afraid to try, i dont know should i rename, link or do something like that to ur icon files when i replace old icons with urs. thanks in advance and sorry for very weird explanation, hope u undersstand what i'm meaning! :D

maranirhis ( 2015-01-07 20:31:18 +0300 )edit

And @Moth, have u discuss about that app which give easy way to change themes (icon packs) ? if u dont have time, i can ask it :)

maranirhis ( 2015-01-07 21:18:24 +0300 )edit

@maranirhis Yes, all my files are just pics and they DON'T provide the proper name for a particular app. That's because they are entirely meant for various targets. The folder you mentioned above contains a LOT of icons but - guess - only 2 or 3 of them are related to launcher icons. (Media app, Terminal app...) The main destination for launcher icons is /usr/share/icons/hicolor/86x86/apps where you'll find almost all of your app-icons. Naming should be self-explanatory - or gain a glimpse in apps *.desktop file. Be careful and backup all default icons before you copy the (renamed) icon files into it! As an alternative it's also possible to put the icons in a separate folder somewhere and adjust the PATH to it in the apps *.desktop file. (Backup recommended, too...)

Moth ( 2015-01-07 21:35:03 +0300 )edit

@maranirhis I would really appreciate if you could spur the devs on a theming-app... ;-D

Moth ( 2015-01-07 22:16:16 +0300 )edit

@Moth, that would be awesome! it would be honour to make my own part for this awesome idea! i dont have any coding etc. skills and i'm always amazed what openrepos dudes can do. Can i get ur mail or something to tell progress of this project? i also have few my own ideas for icons... u can ofc ignore this but i really would love to see my own icons in my lovely jolla :) regards, me ;)

maranirhis ( 2015-01-08 08:25:32 +0300 )edit

@Moth do u mean that i have to rename ur icons with exact names of native icon which i want to replace? i mean i have icon named harbour-barcode,png (which js ofc barcode readers icon), i replace it with ur icon and rename it as harbour-barcode.png? if it is like that, then i will change them, but if i have to code etc. then not cause i'm not (yet) comfortable with actions like that. thanks in advance!

Really nice work! Thank you! Which software do you use for creating icons?

Waxberry ( 2014-06-19 01:45:25 +0300 )edit

Thank you. Most of the work was done with old trusty inkscape, the mighty idraw (ios) and some post-processing with ps.

Moth ( 2014-06-19 08:42:21 +0300 )edit

is there a "theme-ing" app that can change icon sets?

droll ( 2014-06-22 16:35:43 +0300 )edit

I really wish there is an easy way to switch between themes, as I'm preparing a Harmattn style icon set myself, want an easier way to switch back without connecting to ssh or terminal.

Thanks, @Moth, these complement your app icons really nicely! The only thing I'm missing is an icon for my medical folder, maybe featuring a wire-frame version of the Rod of Asclepius? Unfortunately, I have neither the technical nor the artistic skills to create such beautiful icons myself.
