Nokia Drive is one of the best offline turn-by-turn gps navigation systems out there, and it comes for free. The Jolla Maps app is based on the same framework (HERE Maps from Nokia), so I'd really like it to be fully usable in offline mode (ability to download maps for specific countries to device and have turn-by-turn voice navigation). This is essential when traveling abroad or in low-signal areas where mobile data connection is not available/too expensive, and I hope it is already on your roadmap.

Edit 11.5.2014: Answer "We're thinking about it :)" has been here for a while (since the Christmas). A lot of votes both to the question, comments and the answer. Any updates, Jolla? Worth a roadmap tag?

I wouldn't mind to pay for this up to 10€ for the app and extra money for offline maps. Like for example europe for 50€. Or DACH for 25€. Have a look at Sygic shop for price comparisions.

I also wouldn't mind to pay some for offline maps. Would be super handy when you're abroad and have no data connection or don't want to pay criminal charges for data roaming.

Nokia Drive is not free. Those phones getting it without separate payment have the price included into phone price. I agree this feature is needed. Smartphone while roaming is too often useless as "every" software requires data connection.

This is definately needed feature in the Maps app of Jolla. Priority should be given to turn-by-turn voice navigation (to make maps usable while driving), and then the ability to download maps for a spesific country for example for offilne use.

Good, that Jolla is already thinking about this ;)

As in the previous answer stated, OSMAnd works pretty well and is absolutely stable (on my Nokia 5800 the Nokia navigation SW crashed quite often, especially in situations when urgently needed ;) ...).

As add-on to the previous answer: By default OsmAnd installs the maps into the Jolla's main flash (since the android environment SDCard directory is mapped here), which is not desirable. Under

the advanced user can find a description, how to store a large amount of maps on the real SD card.

Maybe not with too few points, but the add-on should be commented to the earlier answer so the one updating the answer could lift these issues up to be included in the answer, especially if the comment get's some votes. Now this won't be voted up as it seems like a duplicate answer.

Official Nokia Here Maps for Android released for public beta. Link to apk

Note that I couldn't download this directly on Jolla. Had to download to a desktop, and copy across to the micro SD card.

I have no problems too. routing works fine. I haven't test offline maps yet.

I've tested offline maps (India is around 1.2Gb), no problem. The previous beta (unofficial) had a bug which would cause the app to stop running, haven't seen that in the last two days either.

HERE maps seems to be good unless you use it offline with Jolla. While navigatin that annoying connection dialog is popping up every fifth second and making whole offline maps useless! Very annoying feature. I think there should be at least option to tell "Don't ask again for connection" and that should be remembered until application is closed. Is anybody else affected with that?

that's a thing i didn't test, but sounds annoying to me too. maybe they fix this issue. it's normal that not all things work in a beta version.

It's already now possible to install the actual HERE release (1.1.410 wk07) via the app store 1mobile market for free. I did it yesterday with my and my wife's Jolla. It's doing a really good job. A lot faster and more stable then Beta 220. You can download the store following the link:

There's been a couple of answers offering HERE Beta for Android as an alternative. Unfortunately now that HERE has reached a stable stage (coming out of beta), Nokia has made the new version available only via Play Store and Samsung app store. The official version supports Android 4.1 and later. Android layer on Jolla is version 4.1, but Jolla does not officially support these app stores. Our options:

If you're still able to find apk for the Beta from a reliable source, that should still work. The last beta version is 220
Some of us might have the apk downloaded directly from here.com/beta/android (earlier official source). DIT Sailors!
Latests Beta should be available in some stores on Aptoide marketplace. These stores must be manually added before Aptoide search finds the app in them
Unofficially, it's also possible to install Play Services on Jolla, enabling installing Play Store and getting HERE from there. As soon as someone tests with the latest official app, let us know if it works
It's possible that Nokia expands the availability later to some other stores - keep your eyes open. The more of us asks for that, the better
EDIT: latest (not beta) might also be available unofficially in other marketplaces like 1mobile

Another way to get the app may be the following:

All you need is an android phone with Google account and the free app "Super Backup" by MobileIdea Studio installed. By using this app you can backup every installed free app as an .apk-file.
Move this .apk-file to your Jolla and install.
I´ve tried it out with several naviapps before Here and it worked as well.

Unfortunately, exactly this app (which worked fine since the glory Symbian days) seems to have a compatibility issue with the Alien Dalvik layer in Sailfish on Jolla 1 wit the latest update: https://together.jolla.com/question/148900/here-wego-update-2010806-doesnt-install-on-jolla-1/

Here WeGo is a pretty good navigation app indeed, but this topic is mostly people asking these features for the native navigation app "Maps" and I don't undestand why this has been selected as the correct answer. These features has been asked (and still missing) since the launch event of the first Jolla Phone in the end of 2013 and suggesting using Android apps doesn't help those who haven't or can't install Alien Dalvik on their phone (like users of community ports of SFOS).
