Media Player hangs with large songlists [answered]

Hi,

I have over 2000 songs on my sd-card and like to listen to all of them on shuffle on my commute to work rather than listen to a particular album or playlist.

Whenever I try and look at the play queue or add the song I'm listening to to a playlist, the media player hangs and comes up with "Media is not responding" and the options to select "Please Wait" or "Close" repeatedly. I usually just hit close, but have left it and it finally gets to the play queue, but is slow to react when I swipe back.

I've come across this on 1.0.3.8 and 1.0.4.20

Is this a bug or just the phone struggling with a large amount of data?

Has anyone else come across this?

Thanks

I have about 13GB music on my sdcard and I have had the same problem a few times, but usually the app works just fine. The problem first occured to me after 1.0.4.2. The first time I hit close, but the next time I just clicked the wait button, gave it a second or 2 and the app works fine from there on. I usually tend to keep the media player app open then the problem doesn't reoccur for me.

The most recent update to 1.0.5.16/19 seems to have cured the problem and adding to playlists or moving to the play queue with a large number of songs is smooth and a lot quicker with no hanging.

It's not fixed, just a question of scale. I have 10k songs, approximately 50 GB, on my SD card and the media player is still so slow as to be unusable, with the latest release 1.0.8.19. Thankfully though I have Quasar MX which works well.

My N9 is much better with the same music collection. When tracker does an update the music player is unusable for a long time, maybe 5 minutes or more. But after that it's perfectly fast. The Jolla player is always slow, as if the index is rebuilt each time at application start-up.
