After the latest update (Ohijärvi) I am unable to change the ambience in use.

I noticed the ambiences become unfavourited. However when trying to change it through the home/lock screen or through the gallery, nothing at all happens. Same thing also goes for when I remove TOH, and place it back on. No notification of any kind on the screen.

My problem is similar to the one in here: https://together.jolla.com/question/34010/solved-no-ambience-in-home-screengallery-since-update-to-10420/ but additionally the issue where trying to change the ambience does nothing at all.

Also already tried to stop the tohd.service and reboot and so on..

a similar thing here: i'm not able to select another ambience in the ambience-screen (tabbing on them does nothing) nor able to create an own ambience.

In 1.0.3.8. i was able to select Snow-White, Poppy-Red, the original theme (with Jolla) and the flower, other ambiences weren't selectable (e.g. camera, ropes..., tabbing on them didn't nothing) Creating an own ambience wasn't possible in this version too.

Now in 1.0.4.20 there isn't any possibility for me to change ambiences (Tab on favorits does nothing, select "create" in pulley-menu also does nothing), when changing TOHs there is also no reaction. PS: I have no sd-card. Where could be the problem?

I think it does something, i.e. sacrificing NFC phone capability ;-(

Have you uninstalled the Tutorial application?

Can you try the following if you have developer mode enabled:

journalctl -fa

pkill ambienced

and check the journalctl output.

No, I haven't uninstalled the Tutorial application. I resolved the ambience issue by doing a factory reset on the phone. Taking TOH out and re-attaching it still acts the same way as before, except that I now get an error after the store opens which says "This TOH is not working".

Later on I noticed that if I transfer a picture to the phone gallery via PC that is from another source than the Jolla's own camera, the ambience changing issue comes back again.

After adding those pictures to the phone's gallery, I see this being output to journalctl around every 5 seconds:

localhost ambienced[4057]: [D] AlbumGallery::AlbumGallery:81 - AlbumGallery::AlbumGallery(QObject) Registering dbus... localhost ambienced[4057]: [D] AlbumGallery::AlbumGallery:102 - AlbumGallery::AlbumGallery(QObject) Starting to monitor directories... localhost mapplauncherd[952]: Boosted process (pid=4057) was terminated due to signal 11 localhost mapplauncherd[952]: Daemon: Failed to kill 4036: No such process localhost systemd[885]: ambienced.service holdoff time over, scheduling restart.

Thank you for your answer.

So something makes ambienced to reboot constantly. Can you point me those pictures you have copied on your device. I assume you copied them to /home/nemo/Pictures?

Can you see copied pictures in the Gallery application? Did you create ambience from those images?

Yes, the pictures are in /home/nemo/Pictures I can see and open them in the Gallery app, however when trying to edit the pictures, the Gallery app just disappears. Selecting Create Ambience does nothing.

It seems that pictures that don't contain EXIF data cause the gallery app to malfunction. I tried removing pictures that caused this to happen. I copied a picture that was an original photo taken with another camera, and was able to crop the photo and then make an ambience from it.

I believe whenever the gallery contains such images that don't contain EXIF, it also causes the ambienced to constantly crash, therefore when trying to change an active ambience, nothing happens. Either it's this or are there some constraints to the dimensions that the image needs to have to be able to create an ambience from it?
