It would be nice to see a small glowing line with Salfish logo and name on boot screen

Agreed. Like the Nokia N9 had a nice subtle boot animation.

The Jolla shutdown screen/image can be changed, see;

Short answer: We didn't do it because there were more important things to take care of, and the devices boots up rather fast.

Long answer: When you start the device you see the "Jolla" logo. It appears as one logo, but is actually two: One displayed by the bootloader, one (looking exactly the same) displayed by the kernel. After that you'll see a black screen for something like 1 or 2 seconds, that's when the graphics stack comes up. After that you have the homescreen already available. Those 1-2 seconds is where we could place an animation without too much effort. It's not really enough time to do anything useful, though: To put any sensible animation at that point we'd need to slow down the boot process. What do you prefer, a fancy animation, or a fast boot? :)

Now what about that slightly longer period where the kernel displays a static image? Couldn't we put an animation there? In theory, yes. However, at that point we don't have any high level APIs available for accessing the graphics chip: It's dirty, lot's of effort, and not portable (i.e., would need to be rewritten for every new piece of hardware). Which means if you look at cost vs. benefit (especially at the fast boot speed we have) it just does not make sense to put it there either.

Fair answer there Aard.

Agreed, keep the boot as fast as possible!

That knocks that into a cocked hat then :)

Yeah, the boot is really blazing fast - keep it up like this.

faster boot is the right choice!

Would it be possible then to have e.g. the Jolla logo from the bootloader and the one from the kernel being slightly different (e.g. in color shade, or in size), so to be able to see in which phase of the boot process it is? It could be useful for that one occasion when the device gets stuck at boot time.

Actually i did mean to add Sailfish logo not only to Jolla device, but for every Vendor X device running on Sailfish in future. Not animated, but just a small blue logo on second boot part.
