I can't find comprehensive help and instructions about using micro-sd. I want to benefit my micro-sd memory card. How I could manage and learn to use memory card without problems? For example my phone doesn't recognize music and pictures by taking them to gallery and media apps if they are at micro-sd memory card. Can anyone help me and other Jolla users.

P.S: I wish that instructions are written as simple as possible, because I'm just a normal Jolla user, and I'm sure that i'm not the only one. :)

Isn't this a duplicate to https://together.jolla.com/question/29923/media-on-sd-card/?

No, it is not, jgr. Maybe it seems like a duplicate, but it is not. I'm trying to tell that I want instructions to use micro-sd card comprehensive and properly, I'm not talking only about media, I'm talking about using whole micro-sd card system. But thanks that you gave a good and useful link. :)

Hi @Markkyboy: This question I was actually searching for but could not find it (should now be easier after I cleaned up the sdcard related tags a little bit). I think, you can convert your comment to an answer and this question can then be closed (preferably by @Ari.jarvio) as being answered.

Here are some simple instructions for using the SD card, from my own experience:

  • The SD card should not be larger than 32 GB and formatted as VFAT. SD cards up to 32 GB usually come preformatted in this file system, so you don't have to do anything. Larger cards can't use VFAT and are therefore problematic for Jolla.
  • Jolla searches the content of the SD card automatically, so you shouldn't have to do anything to make the files on the SD card appear in the respective apps. I verified that: Music files appear in the library in Media, pictures appear in Gallery and even the VCard import found the .vcf file. It should also not matter if files on the card are in folders or not.
  • If you connect the Jolla phone to a windows PC with the SD card installed, both the phone memory and the card will appear as separate devices under "Sailfish" in the windows explorer. That means you can easily copy files onto the SD card without removing it first.
  • If you ever need the actual path to the SD card, it should be under /media/sdcard/xxxx-xxxx, where the x stands for a random number or letter. Not sure why that random part is there, or if it is unique for each SD card.

The thread @Markkyboy linked to is also very informative and has more in-depth information, but I think it's mostly aimed at advanced users or even developers.

Here's a good run down on the use of sdcards

Perhaps not comprehensive, but certainly outlines formatting types and suitable card types
