TOH does not change ambience

I went through two questions regarding this problem, but still can not get the cover to change the ambience when I switch them.I have "The First One", white, black and aloe, but none of them change.
I tried the SYSTEMCTL STOP ... but it did not help-
I think release 1.0.3.8 changed TOH behaviour so that ambience would only be changed on the first time of attaching TOH, at which point it was also downloaded to the phone. This was to reduce the battery drain being experienced by the NFC process. Not sure if this was an interim fix and the change on swap will be introduced sometime. I miss it too, it was a great trick to show other phone users.
