android apps lose connection / shut down

hi there
i have a new problem. and i don't know why.
i only use a few android apps. and sometimes they lose connection. e.g. threema or BBM.
everything works fine, including notifications. but sometimes the app seams to lose the connection or in other words is like in deep sleep. when this happens i don't receive any notifications. i only realize that i got a new message when i open the app to write a new message myself.
when this is happening, then the app shows up with a blank (white) screen and is loaded again. i did not close the app. i just put it behind an other android app.
any body knows why this is happening? is there a maximum time for android apps to "stay up" before they "went deep sleeping".
