Cover-action on settings app
It would be nice if the settings application provides a way to select 2 cover-actions from the favourites. Example: enable/disable wifi with pull to left ; enable/disable data with pull to right.
We have moved to a new Sailfish OS Forum. Please start new discussions there.

Seems a good idea to me, we'll feed it to the UX designers and see what can come out.
Can only assume they've completely abandoned improving the UI until they've got Jolla Launcher in a serviceable state .. as we've seen practically nothing in Sailfish itself since pre-launch. That or there'll be big changes in 1.1 update (one can hope).
midnightoil ( 2014-09-18 21:02:58 +0200 )editCurrently, Settings app allows us to set which settings we want on the home page, but the cover is kinda useless ATM, read only and too much information
I would propose that the Cover which already shows the state of 4 switches (Wifi, 3G, Bluethooth, GPS) should allow us to put two of these (customisable) as cover actions, and keep the two others as readonly icon.
Maybe as a simple additional context menu item beside the "add to favorites" option : we could have also "Set as first cover action" and "Set as second cover action"...
What do you think ? This way we could quiclky switch what we often use, and that would complete the already interesting customisations that are possible in Settings.
extending the suggestion above:
whilst breaking the paradigm of using swipe gestures to initiate "cover actions" (of minimised apps) i believe a greater user experience would be achieved through making each of the 4 icons – wifi/3g/bluetooth/airplane mode)– respond to a touch event, toggling the respective mode? currently the entire panel acts as a single event, taking the user into the menu sub-section itself, from which point the buttons may be toggled.
the reason i suggest touch events rather than swipe: no two users are the same. to determine which two, of the four, would be awarded the prestigious honour of receiving the swipe allocation, you would need to gather a lot of user data to validate the decision. given the international nature of the jolla phone, there may well be cultural differences affecting this too.
having said that, personally i enable/disable wifi/3g substantially more than bluetooth/airplane mode. @pycage and @jliebe illustrate my point perfectly though, as their more-frequently-performed actions differ to mine.
customizable is definitely the way to go. However I'm wondering it'd be possible to have not just 2, but 4 cover-actions- mostly for settings but would make cover actions not just nice, but real powerful. left-right,up-down. It just interferes with the swiping up/down to change screens.
bennypr0fane ( 2014-01-22 22:59:51 +0200 )editAlready an old question, but still not resolved in the latest update...
Implementing cover actions on the Settings app is an improvement on what we have now, but still not perfect: it still requires you started the settings app at some point!
A better way would be to have fixed 'quick toggles' bar at the top of the home screen, or in the Events view. That way, you can always bring up the toggles bar with one push (or swipe if it's on the home screen and you're in lock screen or app drwaer).
In Sailfish 2.0 you can control these common settings toggles quickly from Events View.
@Joona Petrell Thanks! But the question was about cover actions, as current cover for settings app is read-only and unuseable. Why not add configurable action to settings cover? It does not seems that hard and would not interfere with upcoming Events View toggles.
rburkhanov ( 2015-03-10 22:17:24 +0200 )editIn Sailfish 1 you can control all these settings by installing the patchmanager and events view control. This way is much better than your suggestion, since events view is available from ANYwhere by a swipe up. With your swipe up to access launcher one of the best features get killed in the upgrade
NuklearFart ( 2015-03-11 01:04:01 +0200 )editThat's not the point. This request is not about how hard it is to reach those settings (whatever “those” means, note the original request didn't specify what the actions would be), but rather that the settings app feels incomplete and un-sailfish-y without cover actions.
lalomartins ( 2015-03-11 03:08:56 +0200 )editI understand it does not satisfy all, but I can imagine that many people who upvoted this feature request were looking for a quicker way to control setting toggles straight from home. So I added a comment, I wasn't suggesting to close the request.
Joona Petrell ( 2015-03-11 11:25:25 +0200 )editcould be easy: You have 4 toggels and you use pull geture in the minimized view of settings app. Pull right: toggel setting 1 on Pull up: ..... and so on. There are four directions to pull, so why not add more cover actions?
NuklearFart ( 2015-03-12 02:08:25 +0200 )editWe were asking for cover actions for Settings app, and what have we got now? 1.1.9.28, new UI, but no actions, no active icons, nor even setting in events screen as promissed by @Joona Petrell! Totally wrong decision imo! (((

PhixGre ( 2013-12-24 19:40:21 +0200 )editYES, please! :D I was thinking of the same example, this would be great for quick wifi and mobile data turn on/off.
Orologiaio ( 2013-12-24 19:42:49 +0200 )editThis is what I wanted to suggest too.
jaine ( 2013-12-24 19:55:16 +0200 )editExcellent idea. This would work best just as suggested, with two selectable toggles.
jsiren ( 2013-12-24 21:45:26 +0200 )edit"Select connection" dialog is one of most used function, so I'd expect it to be one of cover actions.
