downloadable factory image of latest sailfishOS release

I need a downloadable factory image of latest sailfishOS release. It's not much fun to reinstall every sailfishOS version after a factory reset. i would like to play a little bit with my jolla

Sadly, that's not possible because Qualcomm (legal stuff, interests and all that) - your best bet is to use the recovery and go through the releases, which is a pain as you state.
Another option is unlock the bootloader and dd all the partitions, but you may even break the recovery one, so be extremely careful.
As a feature request, you may want to ask Jolla to update the recovery partition with the latest build, but then you wouldn't be able to go back to previous builds. Decisions, decisions :-)

It is because of legal issues that this kind of flashable image is not present. I'm also hoping it would be made available one day, but for now it is not possible. But yes it can be. People at Jolla are not holding back flashable images just for fun.

siggi_digital: the issue _is_ legal - feel free to write to care@jolla.com to get an explanation if you don't believe the community. Or even better: ask Qualcomm as they are the ones pushing this rule, not Jolla.
