Jolla, please take "Friends" under your wings

Sailfish OS doesn't have an official Facebook app and many people think that "Friends" (by Lucien Xu) is a great community offering.

Why not take this one step further and make it the official Facebook app for the platform?

Specifically,

  • Friends should use the Facebook account that the user added in Settings -> Accounts
  • Facebook notifications should open in Friends, not in a browser
  • Friends should be in the "Jolla" category in the Store

Jolla could even hire Lucien to do this work for them, and support him in making Friends a fully-fledged Facebook client that is on par with the Facebook clients of other platforms.

I do not use Facebook, but that is the right way for Jolla to improve the UX.

AFAIK Jolla is not (yet) allowed to provide official Facebook app due to some licensing issues. I guess they would have to pay for Facebook to do that.

I know I'm a minority, but still I'd like to voice a contra-point: Jolla at this stage should be focusing on implementing open standards instead of some very proprietary protocol and platform. Since I avoid the latter type, for me every hour spent on that is an hour not spent on something I do might use.

Personally I hope not. Officially preferring one might discourage alternatives. Alternatives give new ideas and make everything better. As for the notifications idea, yes, that should be in the settings.

Well, I would rather say the account & notification interfaces should be improved to be actually usable by third party applications.

Taking a single application a hardwiring it to the system might be a short-term solution but brings no longer-term benefits.

@Fuzzillogic You are not alone ;-) Jolla you have a lot work to do, so don't invest time in such an App. And please don't integrate such horrible App inside the OS (like Nokia did with MeeGo -> was not possible to delete it). All people who want to use it have no limitation and the other have no problems with in in general
