Developing for Harbour requirements is not easy, some things nowadays are plain impossible (e.g. to my understanding getting Contacts is simply not allowed for 3rd party apps). All these things will be ironed out over time, but why waste time and enthusiasm now?

Take Mitäkuuluu for example. Platform won't we 100% secure anyway. Why doesn't Jolla talk to @iCodeRus and bend rules specifically for this app (if needed, asking him to introduce final-looking, but fake dialogs for requesting contact access). Examine code together if needed, add expert to help him if needed.

In case Finnish company mentality requires a sense of equality for this to happen, call it a startup-sized developer program and each week/month select developer/app to help extensively with design, graphics, UX review, bending harbour rules for specifically approved cases if needed. Let's get these cool apps to store already! :)

P.S.
Sure I am using Mitäkuuluu as a primary example only. Same would go for Friends (that could benefit from e.g. an expert help and a specific permission to have a background daemon running) and many other apps. I would also love to see it growing further and e.g. throw money at developer in a form of grants or competition prizes, but let's start with expert help and bending harbour rules first :)

better alternative: expose API for accessing the system. and proper access control for those

Having different set of rules for different people is a great way of fucking up everything for more. Simple rules that everyone follows please. As for the contacts (or anything else needed) the solution that Yaniel suggested sounds better.

I'd rather change the rules than bending them for some VIP programs. Jolla could simply get their act together and ask for help if it is a problem of head count. This would be in the spirit of doing something together and be open.

Hmm, I see a problem, I can believe that Jolla is working on a "good long term solution", and why not to have a short-term solution too? That is if doesn't make anything badly irreversible. Few hand-helped and hand-approved important apps doesn't sound like something not killable once proper tools/procedures exist. I should have emphasised expert help rather than bending rules though..
