Automatic presets and manual fine tuning adjustments for camera app to help getting good pictures in various situations. Auto presets could include for example "portrait", "macro", "scenery", "nightfall" modes just to name a few. These settings would automatically reconfigure the camera settings for optimal quality. In addition manual tuning for brightness, white balance, shutter speed etc. could be used by more advanced users.

Aren't portrait and landscape orientations automatic when you rotate the phone when taking the pictures? Manual WB and exp compensation would be sometimes handy, though.

What I mean is that the app itself would have presets to adjust automatically the camera settings for different photographing situations when taking pictures ("Portrait" for indoor and "landscape" for outdoor or scenery use so that good pictures can be taken in all situations.

Thanks for clarification, and thanks for @Orologgiaio for editing. Portrait and landscape are also image orientations, so this edited wording is much better.

as another request I'd like to see under Camera Settings is the Red-Eye reduction flash option

I'm not sure if there is issue for this yet but you could make one for it. Certainly a needed feature for camera flash options.

A feature to select focus pattern (eg matrix) is something I'm missing a lot

To be more specific on the requested "focus pattern": the options could be 1. Spot, 2. Center 3. Whole sensor/Matrix. This is to improve focusing issues. These could also be linked with themes/presets (requested already by TimTTK above)

Hi @TimTTK what kind of results would you expect?

For instance:

MACRO mode is just a matter of focal distance and is already covered in the auto mode
SCENERY mode --> you want to have low ISO (100), high F-stop (anything higher than f3.5 will suffice), decently fast shutter speed (anything above 1/80-1/100)
NIGHT mode --> enable flash, high ISO, slow shutter speed
Portrait --> low F stops, anything higher than 1/30 shutter speed

Now let's get out of professional photography and inside smartphone photography:

F stops: Jolla camera has a fixed f2.4 --> not much to play with.
ISO speed: this is continuous but I had to limit it to ISO640 otherwise the amount of noise would be too high
Shutter speed: soft limit at 1/30s
Focus distance: min 10-15cm - max infinite

So even if we had all these modes there is really not a lot of difference that you would notice between one mode or the other...

@TimTTK please comment on camera tunings to let us know what improvements. And also keep in mind we don't have Carl Zeiss, optical stabilization, etc...

My previous phone, N9 had quite a nice camera for its time. I know there are certainly compromises that has to be made with all phone cameras due to hardware limitations, but I believe there is always something that can be done better. So I wish that some upgrades to Jolla camera are possible maybe even in smaller scale.

@TimTTK: yes, and no, partly. 1: moving focus from center as your link above refers to 2. using a different focus pattern (like multipoint, whole sensor, etc)
