After 5 month of use, I found Jolla gesture less useful than N9...

  • First, lateral swipe (to change ambiance) is very useless, I rarely changed my ambiance and I think N9 model is better (currently, if we have many applications, it's complicate to return to the task screen, and switch quickly to an application to another, and switch to a new one is very long and complicate vs N9). With N9, the multi-task is very impressive, when I show my N9 to an android user, I show the way to launch contact and quickly go to multi-task view, and run another app and jump to the previous... With Sailfish, it's longer, and not better than android system (since Android 4, the multitask is more useful than sailfish... but less than N9)...

  • Lock screen (with hour) very empty... why date, battery level, signal level are not on this screen ??? And also notifications ?

  • The notification screen is also not very useful... I don't use facebook, and the only think I can see if the big F icon for publications... (for real notification, Lock screen can be better); I my idea, merged Notification and Lock screen in one can be better, with a 2 modes, read Only (Lock), and Enable (to click on notification for example)
  • first applications screen (the one with the 4 first apps) is also useless... and folder to tidy all applications on the application screens can be better...

To conclude, it can be a good idea to have an optional "N9 mode". Or a way (API) to develop officially some plugins to change homescreen comportment (new QML file set for example...) Pulley menu is a very good improvement since harmattan, but Sailfish home screens are not so usable than the N9...

I agree with your suggestions. I know Jolla wanted to be original, but the sailfish interface is not better than N9 (except for the pulley menu).

Agree. When using N9 mail app and deleting mails, its a breeze. You can see all the edit options all the time and make things happen with one "push gesture". I don't see any advantage in pulley menu here. I switched my main phone back to N9.

I second that. Buttons or much faster than pulley. Virtual keyboard is a nightmare if you need to enter complex password.

I agree. Widgets on the lock screen, and multiple lock screens with horizontal swiping, would be more useful (but this is covered in another question).

Every UI has its pros and cons - you just mentioned android's multi-tasking is more useful than sailfish's, that sounds like religion as I have two android devices at hand and cannot disagree more, having a task-manager with probably but not always active apps is nothing I'd call multitasking.

Yes it would be nice to have the notifications on the lockscreen interactive and maybe some widgets too but everything else you are moaning and claiming being better somewhere else is subjective wishful thinking. The events-screen is still underused sure but really... putting everything on the lock-screen won't solve this!

For the ambience-chooser, sure why not have all six sideswipes configurable... it actually is if you like to be a brave one you may test the patchmanager and all its features.

Everything you mention has already entries to contribute to so I close this as too subjective.

You could be right for some things, but in the end we all go to how easy/intuitive and how practical the interface is. We now that Jolla is working hard to please a big part of the community and there is a list of priorities, but sooner or later the interface will be improved.

I didn't want to be too subjective and argumentative, my bad english can be a source of misunderstanding, but what I ask in this post is a way to apply plugins to change the homepage by a way "standard", "secure" and "documented".

patchmanager is a good approach for hacking and test, but it have many problems: - We need to uninstall lipstick-qt5 before each upgrade - It can add security problem - It is not officially supported by Jolla team and is a hack...

I think the QML homepage used in Sailfish is a very good way to have a very configurable interface, and an official way to change the default comportment can be a very high-value than Android or other systems...

If you understand what I want to say, I can reword my post and you can re-open this thread...

I think if many user think the same things (prefer some N9 UI parts), it can be interesting to speak about all opinions, to take account all differents usage of everyone... and to create the best interface...

@condo4 understood, I mean no harm with shutting you down like this. A niche linux mobile-phone, with an unfinished OS is what we've got for now. Any fancy stuff is already discussed but when and even if Jolla will implement anything people are currently hacking on openrepos/git is up to them. I can understand that people whom got used to HarmattanUI had or have their problems with SailfishUI - I am one of them. Nevertheless, the UI is slick bleeding edge design and once we get folders for the launcher, an api for lock-screen, access to the side-swipes and some other things everybody will be made happy as some sick developers will have some fancy stuff at hand for you in no-time. The changes, moving things around and resort the UI to reduce it to 3 pages like with Harmattan is something I cannot and will not support. This is Sailfish and not Harmattan2.0 - I like the idea behind, the clean design and the only thing pissing me off right now is that gestures rotate, sometimes.

I agree with @condo4. SailfishUI is particullary unclear. Seriously, this part should be the main objective to improve. Swipe gesture should be logic, and follow a 2d layers structure! actually it's not , and looks like a metaphysics OS like portal game. For example, swipping from the bottom should show animation in the same direction. I particullary dislike, when, from the notification view, I swipe from the left to close it.. So, sailfish OS is for now, not designed for standard brain. :(. So, hopefully it use qt inside :)
