Hello, I just want to know : what kind of DAC is shipped with the Jolla phone actually ? Does it supports 192KHz ?

Thx

Just being curious: Do you mix up kHz and kbit/s?

I mean Kilohertz

I see people answered the second question (192kHz support), but is there anyone who has information regarding the first question asked (what kind of DAC in Jolla phone)?

I think pulseaudio downsamples 192 to 48. Anyway 192kHz i pretty much pointless. You don't need it. Anyone who argues about that has no idea who Nyquist and Shannon were.

I agree anything above 48000Hz for listening is pointless, but it'd still be interesting to know the DAC used.

It looks like is a common argument these days.http://www.avsforum.com/t/1529833/is-high-resolution-audio-irrelevant Don't know if I can post external links, but I do agree, is almost pointless.

@magullo

While resolution (how many bits are used per sample) is something you can argue about for various reasons sampling frequency is something that noone with a right brain can argue about. In the end both are limited by the abilities of the human auditory system.

@ApB I am not an audiophile, but I like listening to music. My trying at 'better listening' have always failed, being an improved amplifier with better headphones, or speaker or improved res/freq on audio. Maybe it's only just me :)

@magullo

With the move towards digital formats being an "audiophile" has become less expensive. You only need a DAC, an Amp and headphones/speakers depending how you want to listen to your music. On the format front 16bit/44.1k should be more than enough for the majority of stuff (someone could argue for a few extra resolution bits) as long as the mastering is proper. On the equipment front your pocket is the limit.

DAC: WCD9304 (Qualcomm) DSP: QDSP6 (version 4), but unfortunately we're missing a HDMI plug for this

Sample rate is set by default to 48KHz. 192KHz might be supported, but if so, probably via I2S only
