I would like to have a quick way to return to the previous app. Maybe an example demonstrates the usage scenario best.

I browse my feed in a Twitter app and click some link in a post. The web browser pops up and loads the link. So far so good. But when I've read the page I would like to go back to the Twitter app as quickly as possible (since this usage pattern repeats quite a lot).

Currently I have to swipe away the browser window which takes me to the home screen and then I select the Twitter app again. That's two gestures. Would it be possible to decrease this to one gesture?

Off course the idea is that this would be a system wide feature and work with any combination of applications.

Perhaps swiping from one side of the screen could perform this "return to previous app" function while the other side would be reserved for the current behaviour (i.e. returning to home screen).

I have also thought about that. The idea I came up was that when you swipe from the lower part of the screen you go to previous program.

I'd be quite fine with one side would switch the current application and the other take to home screen. Perhaps customizable to accommodate handedness.

I suggested this exact same solution before, so we're definitely on the same page...

We should find a way to pool the votes to get this on the roadmap.

That's it – I thought there must be a earlier question about this, but couldn't find yours. I suggest we concentrate votes (and comments/variations) on your question and close this one as duplicate. No reason to keep two separate questions asking the same thing.

I could just repeat what @ssahla said :) Tried hard searching before posting but couldn't find it. I'm fine with combining these two somehow. No reason to have duplicates.

IMHO the "window manager" (lipstick) should remember the stacking order. If I close an app that was opened from the launcher or home screen, it should go back to the home screen. If I close an app that was opened by another app, it should go back to that other app (unless I visited the home screen inbetween; peak doesn't count).

Good idea, but... a two finger swipe is hard to do when holding and operating the phone with one hand.

Do people generally not perform the minimization gesture from the same edge? If that were the case, it would cost nothing to make the other edge access another application directly.

I agree with @fercen. I think a two finger swipe is not good because it might be used as a gesture internally by some app, while the edge gestures are always used for system functions.
