Thank you very much for the reply; yes complete removal was my "endlösung"-type of thing. But it is quite a end-of-the-world type of solution IMO

Remove completely and reinstall.
VBoxManage will only return two return codes; 0 for success and 1 for any imaginable error. This makes it difficult to report what actually went wrong. Consequently, it's not possible to tell from that screenshot anything else than it failed in creating the emulator VM, not why it did so.
