I know that the public API is not full featured but could jolla ask some kind of permission from IG so that we can have a native app in Sailfish OS.

Edit: While there is an app the dev seems to have abandoned his efforts to bring new features and updates.

So its up for grabs i think.

That would be nice. Regarding the public API I think this was the limiting factor for Instago for N9. You could browse but not upload images.

@cquence

Windows phone has an app (6tag) that works as expected AFAIK. So the api isn't a "problem" unless of course instagram wants to cut your app off.

Also Blackberry 10 has a very well working 3rd party Instagram application called iGrann. Unfortunately, looking at the current amount of upvotes, demand for a native Instagram app on Sailfish seems not be very big...

@tb12x0

I believe common people using jolla will appreciate a native app. Its one of the most popular social networking services. Like twitter and facebook i believe the platform (SFOS) needs one.

I like this icon, but sadly instagram says, it is not allowed to use their icons in an unofficial client (icon).

seem it totally not same, right?

TMavica ( 2014-11-04 17:23:07 +0300 )edit

The camera icon used is a official one described here: https://help.instagram.com/304689166306603 And that's exactly what they don't want, according to their rules for unofficial clients.

@ApB I like your icon! :) It looks Sailfish like, does not reuse official icons and still is recognizable instagram.

@forgrimm if you need any modifications or want to use it let me know. And could you share your plans for the app. (ie. make it FOSS, add private api stuff etc etc)

ApB ( 2014-11-05 10:35:47 +0300 )edit

I would want to use it, as it is. The app will be and stay FOSS and without ads. But I may upload a donation version once harbour allows payed apps. I first use only the public, official api. That means, no publishing of images/videos in near future.

forgrimm ( 2014-11-05 12:17:40 +0300 )edit

Am I allowed to use and reuse (I have already a good idea for a header image for jolla store) your icon @ApB? ;-)

forgrimm ( 2014-11-05 12:32:43 +0300 )edit

Yes use it & reuse it. And if you want changes (colours or whatever) let me know. :)

I hope to see it support publishing soon though. ;)

Awesome - Thank you. Will try my best. The goal for the app is to provide the best instagram experience possible :-)
