Since the last update, we have worked on enhancing our releasing process to optimise development and integration of software. It has paid off and brought update 7 to testing earlier than expected. Weighing the pros vs cons, we have decided to directly release update 7, bringing you even more features and fixes. We believe it is the right decision.

We are currently in release candidate creation phase and expect to deliver the update in early June. While we continue to work on finalizing the update, please see below a glimpse of what you can expect with the combined update 6 and 7. We apologize for the delay and any inconvenience this may cause.

Quick access to Sailfish OS updates in Settings: What is exactly this one ?

I agree with the decision and I believe one month between updates is too short a time and takes resources to prepare releases that could be better used in development.

@Giacomo parts of the process changes bijjal mentioned were to make much more efficient use of time for doing releases, so it's a first step to be able to able to reliably do monthly updates without having much overhead on our side.

What about fixing this bug: https://together.jolla.com/question/7144/jolla-randomly-shuts-down-10516/ ? I can't use Jolla as a stable phone for month now :(

So glad to see the CalDAV support is now coming. That's been a major headache for me as I live in my calendar.

2 way Google contacts sync also is great news at least until CardDAV support is in.

Now just SIP and a better Mapping/SatNAV app and I can ebay my N9.

CalDAV and ownCloud FTW!

martinrusler ( 2014-05-22 16:43:47 +0300 )edit

I appreciate very much that you are making a move to bring the CalDAV implementation to us earlier, it doesn't bother me at all waiting longer for most new features of updates 6 if that means less waiting for the more important ones like 4G for all and CalDAV. Good call.

bennypr0fane ( 2014-05-22 16:44:47 +0300 )edit

@Giacomo Di Giacomo IMHO "Release early, release often" is a nice approach if the team is in agile mode and an efficient release infrastructure is present. But I agree that it is perfectly valid to skip/postpone a release if something doesn't fit in.

...still disappointed though that clipbaord/copy-paste is STILL not fully implemented in the browser, this is so important, I don't understand why it's not happening. Sorry about the whining, I have to get it off my chest. I guess the way priorities are set just eludes me.

bennypr0fane ( 2014-05-22 16:49:40 +0300 )edit

@vbmithr I think I have read somewhere in here that the "Search for updates" option is currently too hard to find, and should be moved somewhere else. I assume that this is what it is about.

tokaru ( 2014-05-22 16:52:19 +0300 )edit

Thanks for the information! You're doing a great job. Sail on!

@jukey

I think you should contact care.

ApB ( 2014-05-22 16:57:54 +0300 )edit

@jukey, you should contact Jolla care if you are having serious issues like that with your device.

Sage ( 2014-05-22 16:59:53 +0300 )edit

@jukey You should try this https://together.jolla.com/question/7144/jolla-randomly-shuts-down-10516/?answer=36965#post-id-36965 OR turn your Wlan off OR send it to repair. @Jolla @bijjal Can you even update your browser now? Has it be always a big update to fix something small (like the Nokia did)?

Thanks Jollas! The folder support in app launcher is the real shite to have. My apps is a wild jungle right now.

I'm starting to get the individual updates mixed up a bit, so I'am asking:

Will Qt 5.2 & support for Python apps in store be part of the combined update ?

-- Registered SIP 'xxxxxxxxx' at 80.3.228.x:34011

Saved useragent "Telepathy-Rakia/0.7.4 sofia-sip/1.12.11" for peer xxxxxxxxxxx

Don't get too excited, though, it's still _very_ early work, and limited priority, so I can't even give a rough estimate when it'll be available.

Aard ( 2014-05-22 18:15:59 +0300 )edit

@Aard SIP is not so important for me - I ended up buying an old Cisco IP phone off eBay for the home office so 95% of the time I use it, I've a desk phone available and the other 5% I switch the N9 on. The problem there is a 2+ year old N9 battery isn't lasting as long as it did.

Maps are a different problem. I've yet to find anything as good as Nokia's maps, particularly offline, on Android, so again the N9 gets switched on in the car or out on my bike.

Anyway, great to see more of the pain points being knocked off my list and this release looks like a solid set of updates.

sip is definitely next high priority together with better wlan/3g handoff management. Please don't also forget the important fixes for email client.

thanks for the update.

The list is looking better each release: https://together.jolla.com/question/27207/wiki-which-features-do-you-crave-and-would-like-to-know-its-roadmap-status-on/

:-)

I am definitely looking forward to CalDav support.

IMHO half of those are not that important. This is what I'm pulling my hair for every second day: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s295/sh/62df04ce-cf2f-447d-86be-357914815e42/1240611d1a240828c52eef5db41e93a5

@Wizah You come here and complain about missing features, and link to a page that is behind a login-wall? Shame on you! ;)

@Wizah

Many of the things you mention involve apps made by other devs. You can sent feedback and requests to them. For the rest that can be handled by jolla open bugs here or upvote already open stuff. Many that have been upvoted here have been released.

Love the upcoming CalDAV support but what I'd really like is a working eduroam/PEAP without replacing stock software like in the available workaround (which gets during an update)

Caldav-Support comes only for these few providers? This would be a little bit disappointing. I hoped to get my account at posteo running with caldav. And there are a few providers more out there...

thank you for communicating with the community, that is the most important, even if just to say, as you just did, that you couldn't deliver has promissed, and explain why. Thumbs up!

Finally! CalDAV support with Owncloud. Please add CardDAV, SIP and IMAP Push support and I will be happy. At least I have the important features back from the N9.

@martinrusler Yes, Evernote is the only thing that syncs with Jolla as far as I know. But it shouldn't require a login. @ApB Yes I understand and I edited the list a bit to separate the "other" things. I have both donated and given feedback on github. I know there isn't really alternatives to Jolla so I realize I'm stuck with this ;) but then again in this pace I will have my list fixed by next year. I don't think the devs are rolling their thumbs at work but then again I kind of expected to get a smartphone when I bought this. I did a lot of those things on my PalmOne Treo 650 a long time ago. Kind of trolling but it's not :)

@Wizah For external devs its up to them to add features. As for jolla you have to remember that they are a pretty small team (around 90 people i think) and not all of them code. While many of the features are there (ie SIP works from the command line i think) there arent many people to polish and present the features in a way that will be ok for joe average user. And IMO is wrong to compare the phone with other big companies products. They are different products with different states of completeness. Jolla knows and we know the phone is not feature complete. But they are working on it. The fact that they fixed many of the upvoted features here is pretty awesome IMO.

Please also address the connection loss issues. There are still massive problems with mobile and Wlan connections. I'm even losing my wlan signal reproducable when holding my Jolla in landscape, covering the left side of the phone (usb and phone jack side) with my hand.

So glad to see the PBAP support as well as LTE. Now I can really dump my HTC and use my Jolla full time

The main thing that I want is for Jolla to fix is the random reboot problem. At this point my phone reboots around 9 times a day. During phone calls, messages, browsing well randomly at any time. Which makes it, well unreliable, I needed to use the gps/maps to find out where I was and how to get home, opened the maps app and phone rebooted 3 times.

From what I've seen I am not the only one who is having this issue.

We have now fixed the following w.r.t reboot issues which will be delivered with the next update:

  • Fixed shutdowns related to invalid overheating reports
  • Fixed a couple of kernel crashes that cause the device to reboot
  • Device stability improved by making it less sensitive to sudden power consumption peaks

hope this update number 7 would really true to solve the 3 majors bugs above. If really true. This update should be real name version SailfishOS 1.0 and all previous are just beta and release candidate.

It's already 9th June, so this update is already late for being an early June update.

Ignore the upper post, take your time to perfect the update. We are glad you'll combine 2 updates in one!
